I’m on a mission to hit 30 life-changing goals before I turn 30 (1 Arm 💪 1 Year 📆 1 Mission 🎯).

For this challenge, I sat down with Amal, an asylum seeker who fled religious persecution in Egypt.
While the 2026 headlines focus on the UK’s 30-month temporary protection rules and global statistics, they often miss the human heartbeat behind the numbers. Amal invited me into her home to show me that a kitchen can be a sanctuary of peace amidst the chaos of displacement.

In a world where headlines focus on ICE, the UK’s new 30-month temporary protection rules, and global conflicts, we often lose sight of the human beings behind the numbers.
For the latest mission in my 30 By 30 Challenge, I met Amal. She is an asylum seeker who fled Egypt to escape religious persecution. While I was walking a disabled runway at London Fashion Week, our paths crossed, and she invited me into her home to learn the art of authentic Egyptian cooking.
What started as a mission to sharpen my kitchen skills became a profound lesson in resilience. This isn’t just about recipes; it’s about:
• The Reality of Asylum: Navigating the UK’s 2026 “temporary” status laws on just £49.18 per person (or £8.86 if in catered housing).
• Religious Persecution: The brave reality of being a Christian minority in Egypt.
