“This is what it’s all about for H.”

That’s the message I received from his dad yesterday morning alongside this photo of H in his bed — outside in the fresh air and with his family.

On days where H needs to be in bed that now doesn’t mean he’s confined to his bedroom. Home adjustments have helped make it possible for him to stay connected to the things that matter.

As a Housing Occupational Therapist, this is exactly why I do what I do. It’s not just about ramps and rails, it’s about making sure homes truly support the lives people want and it’s why we keep pushing for better design, more flexibility, and homes that adapt to people and not the other way around.

Today’s baking session with one of my lovely dementia clients reminded me why I love what I do. 💚

We used a large-print recipe, simplified steps, and pre-weighed ingredients to support her independence. When it came time to crack the egg, I handed it to her and instead of doing it the “usual” way, she gently tapped the top with a spoon. I paused, curious. No prompting, no correction.

With care and precision, she tapped the top off and poured the egg in perfectly. 🥚✨

Sometimes the best thing we can do as therapists is wait. Observe. Respect the process. Because every client brings their own wisdom, their own rhythm.

A quick visit to my local museum today for some reminiscence items for my client 💚

I’m looking forward to returning with my children in the summer holidays. They had some little sensory bags to collect on the way in with ear defenders, fidgets and now next and then boards inside, perfect for my little boy 🥰
