A lot has changed since this first photo was taken in 2021, outside the unit at Hatch that I’d just got the keys for. I was terrified to open my own salon, but itching to find an outlet for this talent for nail art that I had.

It was hard, but I loved it. So, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, I did everything I could to keep it going.

Sadly after 4 surgeries, 5 months of chemo, 15 rounds of radiotherapy and now, staring down the barrel of 10 years of hormone treatment and more surgery in the new year, I think it’s time to admit defeat. I won’t be coming back to nails any time soon. Maybe not ever, we’ll see. My body is different now. I’m tired.

I have a new business now, working flexibly from home. It’s what my body needs right now, so I’m happy.

and will continue working in the Chatham Mill space so your appointments won’t be affected. They have some exciting plans, so watch this space!

I am so proud of everything I achieved with this venture. I did nails for Nike and ASOS, partnered with The Manc, built a big family of clients, made new friends, did some teaching, led with my values of inclusion and kindness. I managed to come back from a burglary (remember that?! lol) and find, renovate and open a new place within 4 weeks, just in time for my first surgery. I started a new business and made a success of it WHILE HAVING CHEMO (who does that?!) I know now that I can do anything I want to - what a gift!

I’m so grateful to everyone who has been with me and supported me through the many twists and turns! Thank you so much.

Hi Nail Things!

Just a little update from me. I’m missing our amazing clients loads and had really been hoping to be able to be back at work and dousing you all in glitter over December, but sadly I’m still not well enough.

This photo was taken just before my surgery back in October. It didn’t go quite to plan and I’ve had significant healing issues as a result. I was told last week that I’ll have to have chemotherapy, but the healing issues mean this isn’t possible at the moment. So I’m having surgery again on Friday to try and speed up the healing process so that my chemo can start.

Annoyingly this will mean I won’t be back at work for a little while yet. Obviously I’m gutted about all of this. I miss you all loads (as well as and ) and really hope to see you soon.

As we put the final touches on our new studio at Chatham Mill, I’m excited to share that we are expanding!

I am looking for a brow/lash tech to join us on a self employed basis. I’m also open to discussions about any other skill you may have too, including additional nail techs.

We’re a fun and friendly team, we offer competitive rates (including rent free periods for holidays) and work in a gender inclusive way.

We are devastated to share that Hatch will be closing on 30 September. We were informed this morning, so we are still processing this information and will keep you informed of the next steps for Nail Thing.

Huge congratulations to our darling Lizzie , who married her love Joshua yesterday. Look at that dress and swipe to see her “I do” nails, which she hand painted herself. On both hands. Like a ledge.

Meg and I had the best time celebrating. Meg’s back in the studio all week but is mostly fully booked, so for nails this week, Joanna is your gal on Thursday/Friday

Me and Lizzie are both off (don’t worry, I’m not crashing their honeymoon!) so we’ll see you next week!

Hiya pals 👋

Some rubbish news from me and Coops. I’ve unfortunately been diagnosed with breast cancer.

This is obviously a massive shock, so I’m off work for the next couple of days while I process it and won’t be replying to messages.

I am being sent for more scans and tests to determine next steps and it’s likely these will interfere with appointments in the next few days. If your booking over the next week or so is for a special occasion and you’d rather not risk me possibly cancelling you, I’d recommend booking with someone else for now.

Lots of my clients already knew this might be coming because I’ve been talking about my experience having biopsies while waiting for results for the last couple of weeks, and I just want to say thank you to all of you for being such amazing people. Working for yourself is f**cking hard. My money worries are always present, never mind knowing cancer will mean you can’t work, and you never ever switch off. People ask if it’s worth it. You make it worth it.

One chrome, two ways!

People often assume chrome is Tier 1 because the finish looks simple, but chrome is a right royal pain to apply in a way that ensures it lasts without peeling off, which means it actually starts at Tier 2.

I love how these sets show how versatile and pretty it is - the first is over white and the second over a variety of pinks

If you want a glazed donut style finish without spending the extra £ on chrome, this shimmer gel polish colour is a slightly cheaper alternative. Ask for the colour Apple Blossom
