September’s educational read: When the Body Says No by Gabor Maté 🍂
As a massage therapist, I meet many clients suffering from chronic pain, chronic fatigue, neuropathic pain and much more. This book has directed my intrigue towards the emotional and psychological influences on these experiences: when stress levels reach capacity, they manifest in the body.
This phenomena seems to occur in most bodies, ranging from milder cases (tension headaches, tight hips, IBS and tense shoulders) to more severe illnesses.
Often we zoom in on each symptom and treat them individually, but shifting our focus towards the emotional and psychological experience can lead us to the root of the issue. So many people seem to be stuck in fight-or-flight, which inevitably takes a toll on the body when it finally says “enough”!
I love to see western health science and medicine taking its baby steps towards viewing the mind and body as one indivisible union - because treating them separately just doesn’t make sense to me 🙃 I’d love to see my own work progress to a place that helps people mentally, physically and emotionally all in one, to reach the most effective form of healing 😌❤️
The more I become in tune with my body, the better my mental and physical health become. Movement, regulating the nervous system and grounding within the body are literally the yummiest 😋 tastiest 🥰 experiences for our brains, and they’ll thank our bodies for it in return.
Listen to your bodies everyone 🙏
