Did you know some autoimmune diseases can affect your hearing?

Certain conditions are linked to hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears). In addition, some medications used to treat autoimmune diseases may be ototoxic, meaning they can potentially damage hearing.

That’s why experts recommend regular hearing screenings for people living with autoimmune conditions. Monitoring your hearing can help catch changes early and support your long-term health. https://ow.ly/ISAz50XXscm

Did you know some medications can affect your hearing? πŸ‘‚

Hundreds of prescription and over-the-counter drugs have been linked to hearing loss or tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Common culprits include NSAIDs like aspirin and some blood pressure medications.

If you notice new ringing or hearing changes, especially after starting a new medication, tell your doctor right away. In some cases, adjusting the dose or switching medications can help.

I saw a lady today who had quite sore looking ear canals. When I questioned her, (thinking she had been using cotton buds!) She told me she had been using hopi ear candles, to try and remove the wax from her ears! 😱 These really don't work and are a total waste of time. Always get a professional to check your ears and remove any wax from your ears, if needed. πŸ‘‚πŸ˜

Big lips, small lips, red lips, blue lips β€” it is all the same to me. I just want clear access. I use your lips to help me hear.

Pulsatile tinnitus is a rhythmical noise which is heard in the head and/or ears which pulses usually at the same rate as the heart beat.

It is usually caused by a change in blood flow, or change in awareness of that blood flow, in the vessels near the ear. If you are experiencing symptoms like these, please speak to your GP who will suggest a number of different tests.

We have more information on pulsatile tinnitus available on our website, alongside a pulsatile tinnitus information leaflet (link in comments)

If you are struggling with your tinnitus, our helpline is available (0800 018 0527)

Pregnancy can bring a lot of unexpected changes β€” including changes to your hearing.

Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and other hearing issues are more common during pregnancy and are often linked to hormonal shifts. In many cases, these changes resolve after childbirth.

That said, any new ringing, hearing changes, or unusual sounds are worth mentioning to your doctor. Hearing your own heartbeat in your ears, in particular, can be a sign of a more serious condition (like high blood pressure) and should be checked out as soon as possible.
