This is such a good example of how having a hearing loss can affect your daily life. Having an ear full of wax can add to the problems.
It's always best to look after your ears and hearing.
👂Have ear wax removed by a professional when it starts to build up.
👂Have your hearing checked if you think you are struggling.
👂Don't leave it and hope it will disappear, it rarely does and can lead to further problems.

I’ve grown and transformed my listening of the words “disability” and “hearing loss” over the years. Anyone will tell you that while I do not often choose to let it define me - I also will not deny the invisible weight on my shoulders.

Here are just a few of the unseen extras that go with living a life with as strong individual with hearing loss.

From the exhaustion that comes from constant vigilance, discomfort of adjusting to periodic programming changes, and the vacuum of missed sounds, social details and conversations.

Each of these can drain our mental energy from worry, coordinating, practicing, looking for, asking for repetition, etc. It's no wonder we need sound/hearing breaks and extra time for self-care! To those living this reality, know that your strength is seen, your challenges acknowledged, and your perseverance is recognized.

Together, we can make the invisible, visible.

Also called “Frank’s sign” (after the doctor who first noticed it), a diagonal crease in your lobe may be a sign of heart disease. Scientists don’t know exactly what causes the crease, and not everyone who has it will have heart disease. If you notice you have one, talk to your doctor about it. https://wb.md/46gJ6VS

Microsuction is one of the safest and fastest ways to remove wax from your ears. It can be used on any ear, even if your ears have perforations or have been operated on in the past. It is also a dry method, so you won't end up with a wet ear, neck or shoulder.

Always go to a qualified professional that can show you their qualifications.
I am a fully qualified Audiologist, with over 20 years experience. I am registered with the RCCP and fully insured.

Two pics if my ears. The first is my right ear. I have tried to take a photo of the wax at the entrance of my canal. This is normal and is working its way out of my ear. The second picture is my left ear drum, with a few flecks of dry wax on the ear drum. Both are normal and healthy. 👂😁

‎𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖?
‎Constant use of AirPods and earphones at high volumes can cause Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) and this type of hearing loss is permanent and irreversible.
‎When you are exposed to loud sounds for long periods, the tiny hair cells in your inner ear become damaged. Once these cells are destroyed, they do not grow back. This means the hearing loss cannot be reversed.
‎In addition, wearing AirPods or earphones for extended periods can trap moisture, sweat, and bacteria inside the ear canal and prevent the ear’s natural self-cleaning process. This increases the risk of:
‎✔️ Ear infections
‎✔️ Irritation and inflammation
‎✔️ Wax buildup and blockage

‎ 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐖𝐇𝐎):
‎• Over 𝟏 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 young people (aged 12–35 years) are at risk of hearing loss due to unsafe listening practices.
‎• 𝐁𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟓𝟎, 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝟐.𝟓 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 people worldwide are projected to have some degree of hearing loss.
‎• 𝐀𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝟕𝟎𝟎 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 people may require hearing rehabilitation services.

‎Protect your hearing today:
‎1. Lower the volume
‎2. Limit listening time
‎3. Clean your earphones regularly
‎ 4. Give your ears time to breathe
‎Your hearing is precious. Protect it today for a healthier tomorrow.

Our ears clean themselves naturally. Different conditions can cause the ear to over produce wax. Narrow, collapsed or hairy ears, dry skin in the canals, dusty working environments and even allergies are just a few reasons why we over produce ear wax. 👂

As it is tinnitus week.

A tinnitus spike is not always an increase in volume. It can involve changes in pitch, tone, or sound quality, or a period when tinnitus feels more intrusive or distressing, even if the sound itself has not changed.

Spikes can last minutes, hours, or longer, and while they’re tough, they don’t mean you’ve lost progress. They’re a normal part of habituation.

Learn more about why tinnitus spikes occur and how understanding them can support long-term coping.
