As audiologists we see all sorts in ears. Ear phone ends are one of them. If you notice that you're not quite hearing right and you've misplaced your earphone ends, they could well be stuck in your ears. Foreign bodies can cause serious damage along with infections. If something doesn't feel right, let your audiologist take a look for you.

Are you sure your ear care provider is trained and experienced to carry out ear examination and earwax removal?

When a trained audiologist looks inside your ears they are not simply checking whether there is earwax or not. We look at the whole ear and check for any signs that require further investigation.

This is a growth inside the ear canal (non cancerous following further checks) which had to be removed as it was almost entirely blocking the eardrum. It was missed by the last person that checked these ears.

The second image is a normal eardrum.

These tiny organs are responsible for much more than just being able to hear. Take care of them and leave it to the professionals.

Say no to cotton buds. Another cotton bud end surrounded by wax removed today. This one was impacted against the eardrum.

Your ears are self cleaning. You shouldn't need to use cotton buds. If you produce excessive wax, let a registered professional help by safely removing the wax for you.
