Last night I taught a beautiful class in Liverpool to a small group of African men living with HIV in my Volunteer role with .

I am frequently touched by the power of these practices to support and transform and even more so when teaching groups who don’t normally get access to yoga.

I truly believe that yoga is for everyone however not everyone is privileged enough to come into contact with it or be able to afford to do it.

It can feel disappointing when we brush up against entitlement and ennui in more affluent yoga settings, and this is the reason I have always tried to prioritise reaching underserved populations.

These men were polite, engaged, respectful and really loved the practice. There is a level of receptivity which I have encountered before in these groups. One man said ‘How have I reached this age and never done this before?!’

The reward in sharing these practices goes far beyond material compensation. And to be able to offer tools to enable self discovery and potential transformation is a huge gift.We all win in these encounters and I hope that the sharing will continue for many years to come!

I am feeling tired but grateful this morning for the amazing opportunity I just had to help spread the teachings of Svastha yoga through the beautiful wisdom of Nitya Mohan.

Thank you to the lovely group of students who attended both the Yoga for Women and the Sound for Well Being workshops. Such a wonderful community committed to the practice and to sharing yoga which is true to its roots as well as accessible to everyone.

Shanti shanti shanti

It’s time to start thinking about retreats again!! still have some spaces on my autumn/ Samhain retreat at the beautiful venue, Whalley Abbey near Clitheroe Lancashire.
The wonderful thing about this venue is its proximity to Manchester, just a short train ride or road trip away.
It is situated in the middle of a small village, however when night falls it is so quiet with only bats populating the grounds!
I love sharing these special weekends with my groups and I hope that you can join me for what promises to be a beautiful few days to step out of the fast pace of your life and rest deeply in preparation for the shorter days and colder weather.

Contact me asap to reserve a space .

This wonderful weekend is almost upon us and there are a few spaces available.
Please get in touch if you are interested.

Nitya Mohan is the daughter of AG and Indra Mohan and she is trained in Indian classical music as well as having a life steeped in yoga tradition, chanting Vedic verses for Krishnamacharya as a young girl.

She is a very wise and gifted teacher and her sessions are so uplifting and inspiring.
She is refreshingly humble and you will learn so much from her.

My teaching space for Move Well 2 ,on Svastha Yoga Therapy this weekend .

We have been exploring approaches for disorders of the lumbar spine alongside protocols for each.

Today we are moving to the Thoracic spine and will be looking at general practice protocols for maintaining a healthy mid and upper back, how to protect it against excessive kyphosis and we will start our disorders work with osteoporosis!

All the modules always lead us to practical actionable skills always underpinned by traditional wisdom and sound scientific knowledge.

I am so grateful to .ganeshmohan.yoga for his dedication and rigorous work and of course to his parents Mohanji and Indraji for their huge contribution to preserving and evolving the teachings from Krishnamacharya and beyond. They have been life changing for me.

And last but not least who will be joining us next month, for her wise teachings and inspirational sound work.

This training g weaves all this together with my own long experience of teaching yoga here in the North of England to diverse populations and I love sharing this with those teachers who get what I am doing!

Have a lovely weekend all!

My view every night from 7 ish the last few days!
I wanted to let you know that I haven’t been posting, sending emails or very many text messages as I have had concussion and my concentration was not great.

It was just a routine event for a tall person!Standing up and hitting my head on the cupboard door, but it was pretty intense.

So following a visit to an and e to make sure no serious damage had occurred I was advised to rest often , avoid excessive screen use and anything over taxing.

So apologies if I haven’t been in touch, have forgotten an appointment or anything else.

I am slowly mending and will be leading tomorrow’s Unwinding the Mind Session.

But please bear with me over the next week or so as I gradually get back into things.

Love and shanti

These roses! Such a symbol of the height of summer, the fragrance, the colour and the absolute cheek of them! These were a birthday present from an old friend and each year they just get better and bolder.

There is something deeply celebratory about these mid summer flowers, such outrageous colours, bigger and more flamboyant than the delicacy of the spring blooms.

I hope that this image brings you a reminder of what is beautiful and uplifting and soothes your restless or clouded mind just for a moment as you pause your scrolling!

My sweet peas have been decimated this year and so my lovely neighbour shared some of her bounty.

I just love all the colours of this season, they are so vibrant it is truly an uplifting thing to really observe the miracle of a flower!

Make it a practice for this midsummer to really get interested in the fullness of nature right now.
And if you are having rain be grateful for the nourishment that is coming to all that is growing.

Happy midsummer( as you know I don’t do international day of yoga! Every day is a day of yoga 😃)

Have a great week.

Announcing my next workshop at The Yoga Rooms and it’s another Unwinding the Mind session.

On Sunday July 6th 2-5 at the lovely Yoga Rooms studio we will explore simple practices for unwinding an agitated mind and jangled nervous system.

We will briefly explore some functional science around the fight/flight responses specifically and explore simple accessible yoga tools to help to regulate these natural protection impulses.

There will be restful and steady breath led movement with bhava and mantra and some quietening restorative practices.

As always this will be a practice that is suitable both for beginners and regular attendees alike.

Today I am thinking about my practice, about all the ways I have created bhavas that I can call upon when I feel the need to create a shift.

All of us will go through ups and downs in our life and it’s so wonderful to have tools to draw upon to help us.
Yoga is something we live, not just something we ‘do’ once a week , but a living, breathing embodiment of peace and clarity.

In the moments where I feel this it helps to support everything else even the messy stuff! And we all have minds and so we all have plenty of that.

The way I practice and teach is simple and not fancy.Im not an academic or an intellectual,I am not a clinician or a specialist but I am full immersed in these practices that have survived thousands of years and still continue to support us to make changes.

If you would like to work with me either as a teaching mentor or a yoga therapist then watch this space for some announcements!

Happy midsummer week!
