🦵 Shin Splints: What You Need to Know

Shin splints are a common overuse injury that causes pain along the front or edges of the shin. They often occur in runners, dancers, and people who suddenly increase their activity levels.

⚠️ Common signs & symptoms:
• Dull, aching pain in the lower leg (often during or after exercise)
• Tenderness along the shin bone
• Mild swelling in the lower leg
• Pain that worsens with running, jumping, or high-impact activity
• Discomfort that may ease with rest but returns when activity resumes

Shin splints are typically caused by repetitive stress on the lower leg muscles and bones, often linked to training errors, footwear issues, or biomechanics.

💡 How physiotherapy can help:

A physiotherapist can help you recover safely and reduce the risk of recurrence by:

✅ Identifying the root cause (training load, footwear, movement patterns)
✅ Providing tailored strengthening and stretching exercises
✅ Improving running and movement technique
✅ Using hands-on treatment to reduce pain and tightness
✅ Guiding a safe return to sport or activity
✅ Offering advice on footwear and load management

Early assessment is important to rule out other conditions such as stress fractures and to speed up recovery.

📩 If shin pain is stopping you from doing what you love, book an assessment with our clinic today.
