🦠 Healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) are caused by microorganisms like bacteria and viruses that are spread in healthcare settings, leading to infections in patients that were not present upon admission.

🤒 In Quality Standard 61, NICE estimates that 300,000 patients a year in England acquire a healthcare-associated infection as a result of care within the NHS.

💷 HCAIs place a massive clinical and financial burden on the NHS, and are estimated to cost the NHS well in excess of £1 billion annually. They lead to longer hospital stays, costly remedial surgery that puts extra pressure on already busy theatre lists, increased use of antibiotics, and untold distress for the patients and their families.

Our CL3 installation team has finished work at a Scottish university, where we delivered a new Containment Level 3 laboratory, with safety cabinets, air handling unit and extract systems.

For this turnkey design and build project, we also installed a sophisticated lighting control system, which operates on a 'dawn/dusk' basis, replicating daylight conditions.

🧪 We've just finished working at a Scottish university, refurbishing an existing CL3 containment facility that we originally installed nearly 20 years ago! The refurbished cleanroom has new vinyl throughout, new extract systems, and has been fully tested and commissioned prior to handover.

👱‍♂️ The project manager on the job was Mark Whittle, who has been with us for ten years, during which time he has established a well-deserved reputation for completing works within budget, on time, and to an exceptionally high standard.

Great to see this story on the Darwin Group website, showing our ECO-flow Stealth ultraclean ventilation (UCV) canopy with its distinctive flush-to-ceiling design and LED perimeter status lights.

We are designing, supplying and installing specialist theatre equipment and full HTM 03-01 (2021)-compliant ventilation systems for the on-demand theatre.

We’re currently working at the University of Plymouth, carrying out remedial works to a CL3 containment laboratory. The alterations will make the lab suitable for use within the university’s internationally-renowned Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence, which carries out research into low-grade brain tumours. The university is one of five Centres of Excellence supported by the Brain Tumour Research charity.

When MAT Project Manager Mark Whittle got chatting to the university’s fundraising team, he shared that he too has supported Brain Tumour Research, recently participating in a demanding fundraising walk around three Lancashire reservoirs to raise money for the charity that is doing so much to help a childhood friend who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence at the University of Plymouth is working to improve the diagnosis and treatment of children and adults with low-grade brain tumours, including schwannoma, meningioma and glioma.

It is one of Europe’s leading research institutes for low-grade brain tumours and proactively works with national and international groups to swiftly translate their research into clinical benefit for patients.

Spending 25 years with one company is a wonderful achievement, and we want to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our Service Manager, Pam Brierley, who recently celebrated her silver anniversary with MAT 👏

Pam has seen so many changes within the company - when she joined us, we were just a small team, working from an office in Middleton. Now we have 40+ staff, large headquarters in Trafford Pack, and a significant customer base of NHS and private hospitals, research facilities and universities, including some of the most familiar and respected institutions in the UK.

One of Pam's key achievements is the care and time she puts into building and maintaining strong relationships with our clients, which we know they really appreciate and value.
