Preventing injuries when moving and handling your suitcase. It has been a common occurrence that our clients have suffered injuries in the airport or on the plane- Here’s some reasons why you should be careful…

👉🏼Strain on your body:
Lifting and carrying heavy luggage, especially incorrectly, can place significant strain on your muscles, ligaments, and joints, potentially leading to injuries like strains, sprains, or even more serious conditions such as herniated discs.

👉🏼Targeted risks:
Your back, neck, and shoulders are particularly vulnerable when handling bulky or over-packed luggage. The awkward angles and twisting motions involved in maneuvering a suitcase, particularly when lifting it overhead or navigating stairs, exacerbate these risks.

Stretching is so important for multiple reasons, whether you are active or just feeling abit stiff…
Here’s some of the key reasons why stretching is so important 💁🏼‍♀️

➡️ 1. Improved flexibility and range of motion
Stretching helps lengthen muscle fibers and increase the elasticity of muscles and surrounding soft tissues.
This enhanced flexibility allows joints to move through their full range of motion more easily and efficiently.

➡️2. Reduced risk of muscle strains and injuries
Preparing muscles for activity through stretching can decrease the likelihood of tears and strains, especially when combined with a proper warm-up.
Improved flexibility also helps the body distribute loads and forces more effectively during movement, which may lower the overall risk of injury.

➡️3. Alleviation of muscle tightness and stiffness
Stretching helps relax tight muscles and reduce stiffness, particularly after physical activity or prolonged periods of inactivity.
This can be particularly helpful for individuals experiencing muscle pain and discomfort, according to the Arthritis Foundation.

➡️4. Enhanced posture
Addressing muscle imbalances through targeted stretching can help promote better spinal alignment and reduce strain associated with poor posture.

➡️5. Potential for improved athletic performance
Dynamic stretching, which involves controlled movements, can help prepare muscles for physical activity and potentially enhance performance in sports and other activities.

➡️6. Increased blood flow
Regular stretching can improve circulation, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to muscles, which can aid in recovery and potentially reduce post-workout soreness.

➡️7. Stress relief
Stretching can help release muscle tension that can accumulate due to physical and emotional stress, promoting relaxation and calming the mind.

🔬 An international research study exploring the experiences of Lipoedema before and during pregnancy, and in the first year after birth, is calling on participants to share their experiences.

The study, conducted by Joanna Dudek, PhD, from SWPS University in Warsaw, Johanna Falck, PhD, and Professor Jan Martensson from Jönköping University in Sweden, aims to better understand the physical, emotional, and social experiences of women with Lipoedema during pregnancy.

You are invited to participate if:
- You are 18 years or older, and
- You have had Lipoedema before pregnancy, during pregnancy, or in the first year after childbirth, and
- You have already given birth (the study is not for those who are currently pregnant).

There is no formal Lipoedema diagnosis required to take part.

If you fit this criteria yourself, or know of anyone who does and may be interested in sharing their experiences, please head to Lipoedema UK website below:
