It is so important to stay active through the winter months because…

🧊Boosting your mood and mental health Physical activity releases endorphins, the body's natural "feel-good" hormones, which can help fight off the "winter blues" and symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression common in winter. Getting natural sunlight, even in winter, helps regulate your body clock and Vitamin D levels, further improving mood and energy.
🧊Strengthening your immune system Regular, moderate exercise can help bolster your immune system, making your body more effective at fighting off seasonal bugs, colds, and viruses.
🧊Maintaining physical health Consistency is key. Continuing an exercise routine helps prevent winter-related weight gain, decreased mobility, and joint stiffness. Exercise also strengthens your heart and bones, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the risk of serious illnesses like type 2 diabetes, stroke, and certain cancers.

It is really important at this time of year we look out for our elderly neighbours and loved ones, as they are more vulnerable with the colder weather and conditions 🥶
Below are some considerations:
❄️ wrapping up in warm clothing with plenty of layers, hats, scalves and gloves.
❄️ avoid walking on icy surfaces ( could you put some salt/grit on their outdoor steps and driveway?)
❄️ use a walking aid if unsteady
❄️ keep up with your usual exercise classes/other activities throughout winter ( winter can be very isolating).
