What do Lyme disease and syphilis have in common?

The organism that causes Lyme disease is a bacterium, Borrelia burgdorferi, which was cultured from the midgut of Ixodes ticks in the mid-1980s. The whole class of bacteria that can be identified by this distinctive shape, the spirochetes, which include some other nasty human pathogens that can cause syphilis, tick-borne relapsing fever, dysentery, and leptospirosis.
But what of the relatives of B. burgdorferi? Perhaps one of the most infamous of these is Treponema pallidum, the bacterium that causes syphilis. in contrast to Lyme disease, syphilis is not a modern affliction; it was first recognized in the 15th century in Europe. It is similar to B. burgdorferi in that it is a spirochete with a relatively small genome and requires a host to survive; however, at the genomic level, the two organisms are not very closely related to each other.
The full syndrome now known as Lyme disease was not recognized until a cluster of cases originally thought to be juvenile rheumatoid arthritis was identified in three towns in southeastern Connecticut in 1975, including the towns Lyme and Old Lyme, which gave the disease its popular name.
I found what I was looking for in the book "The Book of herbal Wisdom" by the American phytotherapist Matthew Wood. Wood, an expert in traditional Chinese herbal medicine, found that the Chinese used the “teasel plant” for a range of symptoms quite similar to today's Lyme disease - Dipsacus asper, D. japonica (Wood1997: 233). They called it xu duan ("rebuilding what was broken") and used it for painful joints and muscles. If the jing, whose reside in the kidneys, weakens, then the lower back and knee joints are also weak, stiff and start to hurt. This, in turn, leads to damage to bones, joints and cartilage. The psychological consequence is that a person loses his inner integrity - he is also mentally divided.
According to Matthew Wood, Lyme borreliosis (deer syphilis) is a modern form of syphilitic miasma (according to Hahnemann's homeopathic theory of miasmata). According to Wood, tick-borne spirochetes promote antler growth in deer but act as a sylytic infection in humans; they cause chronic inflammation of muscles and joints.
This is what we actually "deal with" - chronic inflammation of muscles and joints. Treponema bacteria was confirmed once in the joints, other times on the nervou system.
