+++++++++++ NEW TEST ++++++++++++
We’re pleased to announce that Primary Hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) testing is now available at Laboklin for both Keeshond and German Spitz.
Primary Hyperparathyroidism is an inherited disorder where the parathyroid glands produce too much parathyroid hormone (PTH), leading to persistently high calcium levels. Over time, this can cause serious health problems.
PHPT is particularly recognised in Keeshond, with German Spitz also predisposed.
💡 Why Breeders Should Test
✔ Identify at‑risk dogs before symptoms appear
✔ Make informed breeding decisions
✔ Protect the long‑term health of the breed
✔ KC scheme available for Keeshond
✔ Results for Keeshond can be sent directly to the Kennel Club (with owner permission)
🏅 Kennel Club Information
PHPT is part of the Kennel Club DNA Testing Scheme for the Keeshond.
With the owner’s permission, Laboklin can send results directly to the KC for inclusion in registration and health records.
🧪 Testing is Easy
Samples can be submitted as:
• Buccal swabs
• Blood in an EDTA tube (blood must be collected by a vet)
• Stored DNA – if your dog has been tested with us before for any genetic test (health, coat colour, or other DNA tests), you can order the PHPT test on stored DNA without sending a new sample.
