We’re excited to welcome our final speaker, Dr Hari Sholinghur to the Northern Student Psychiatry Conference 2026!
🗣 The Future of Psychiatry: AI, Novel Treatments and the Next Era of Mental Healthcare
In this talk, Dr Sholinghur will explore how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence may reshape psychiatric practice - from early detection of mental illness and personalised treatment planning to digital monitoring and technology-supported care pathways.
The session will also examine new and emerging biological treatments, including ketamine-based therapies for treatment-resistant depression, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy currently being studied for conditions such as PTSD and depression, and advances in neuromodulation and neuropsychiatric rehabilitation.
Drawing on experience across acute psychiatry, neuropsychiatric rehabilitation, ADHD and autism services, and medico-legal practice, the talk will discuss how these developments may transform the role of psychiatrists over the coming decades.
The aim is to give medical students an engaging and forward-looking perspective on where psychiatry is heading, the scientific developments shaping the field, and the exciting opportunities available for the next generation of psychiatrists.
