The Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre

The Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre Welcome to the Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre. We are one of the largest and longest established adult CF centres in the UK.

Since 1994 we have been based at MFT - Wythenshawe Hospital. We now occupy a purpose-built state-of-the-art facility - one of the most modern and well equipped in the country. We provide inpatient, outpatient & community services for our patients. We have a holistic approach to the management of CF and our philosophy is to provide a friendly and caring atmosphere for patients, where they will receive expert advice, information and care. We encourage patients to take a lead role in their own care, and personal independence is encouraged and expected.

🚗 Car Park Update 🚗

- Firstly, unfortunately the roof works are still on- going, therefore entrance 4 remains closed. Apologies for the inconvenience.

- Secondly, we are trying to reduce the amount of staff parking in the CF car park, therefore the barriers will be disabled between 18:30 - 08:45 (Mon-Fri only)

If you have a 9am appointment, the CF barriers will work as normal from 08:45. If you need to access/ leave the car park inbetween these times, please use the intercom but there may be a slight wait.

Thanks

Come and join us at the CF Cafe tomorrow - Thursday 3rd July 12pm-1pm

The CF Cafe is a relaxed space for people to talk about whatever might be on their mind at the time, and it is open to everyone from MACFC. A member of the Living Well with CF team will be there to facilitate the meeting but conversation is very much guided by the attendees so there is no set agenda ahead of time. Our belief is that peer support is invaluable, so we will take a step back and allow conversation to flow naturally. Of course, there is no pressure to speak much if you would rather listen, and we encourage ground rules regarding confidentiality in that whatever is spoken about in the group remains in the group.

The cafe is held on the first Thursday of every month - the next one is tomorrow on Thursday 3rd July 12pm-1pm!

Feel free to come for as much or as little as you like.

You can join us by clicking on the following link: https://tinyurl.com/livingwellcf or scanning the QR code on the poster.

If you would like to find out further information or have any questions, please email us at: livingwell.cf@mft.nhs.uk

🔬🧐 Reseearch - CF Tracker Study 🔬🧐

CF Tracker is now open to recruit at MACFC

This is a study to help understand what causes “exacerbations” in people with CF.

Many people with CF experience more than one exacerbation per year, which can cause a lot of disruption to their work and family life.

The Tracker study has been designed to be easy for people to do, without placing too many demands on their time. That is why it involves only a single clinic visit and then posting in samples from home (at most centres)

If you are interested or want to know more please head to the below links for more information or speak to a medic at your next clinic appointment.

😭🥳 Happy Retirement 😭🥳

Yesterday we wished Helen, our amazing House Keeper for the ward, a very happy retirement. Helen has worked in CF for 18 years. Her efficiency, dedication and attention to detail made her the true woman in charge of us all.

We wish Helen all the best for her retirement and a well and truly deserved rest.

Happy Retirement Helen 💛

♥️ Farewell & Good Luck ♥️

This week we say a very sad goodbye to Bec from our social worker team 😭 However Bec is continuing her work in the transplant team, so you may still see her around.

Words from Bec;
Well, what can I say?! It really has been a pleasure to work with such an inspirational team and the most amazing patients! I am going to miss you all so much.
Thank you for all the laughter (and tears!) over the past (almost) 15 years - I’ll treasure the memories and everything I have learnt from you all. Thank you for all the lovely messages and cards, and the fab send-off from my work family… I’ve been really spoilt and feel so lucky to have known you all.
I’ve found out this week that I’m no good at goodbyes - I’ll still be in the hospital so hopefully will still ‘see you soon’!
Take care lovely CF family ❤️###
