💡Answer: There are several reasons, including anxiety, caffeine, too much screen time, and more. ⁣
You’re feeling absolutely exhausted but as soon as you hit the pillow you’re wide awake, sound familiar? ⁣
Anxiety is one enemy. Racing thoughts, in particular. Your body might be ready to call it day, but your mind won’t quit. Try to meditate or listen to calming music.⁣

It’s pretty obvious why caffeine could be a cause. But note that you can still enjoy your daily coffee or tea.⁣
Just don’t drink too much and too late. Aim for a final cup at least 6 hours before it’s time to hit the sack.⁣

You might be successful at laying down the law when it comes to limiting kids’ screen time. But don’t forget that the same applies to you as an adult. Blue light from your gadgets is the bane of melatonin, the hormone that helps you sleep.⁣

One thing you can do no matter the cause is to establish a sleep and wake schedule. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Your body and brain will adapt. Eventually, you’ll nod off faster and sleep better.

There’s nothing like a clean, soft fresh pair of pyjamas (or nightie) to help you sleep like a baby.⁣
Don’t wait for them to be worn in, use the three step method below to turn washing your nightwear into part of your self care routine ⁣

♥️ Use a special aromatherapy laundry detergent to wash just your night wear. Reserve this for pyjamas and give them a special sleepy touch. I recommend Zum Clean Lavender laundry soap ⁣

♥️ If you want to really amp up the fragrance use an aromatherapy fabric softener ⁣
The Bower Collective have a great lavender version which softens beautifully ⁣

♥️ Tumble dry your PJ,s on low until they remain slightly damp. Lay them out on an airer to dry fully then finally iron out any creases ⁣

♥️ Making a beautiful ritual for your night wear will really help you feel not only comfortable but as if you have invested in your bedtime routine ⁣

I personally think it makes a big difference to how you approach bedtime and in turn, sleep well for longer ⁣
Let me know if you try this ⁣

I was waiting in the post office queue the other day and saw newspaper headlines blaring “HEATWAVES TO HIT Britain”⁣

Apparently we are set for a hot Summer and for me personally, that’s good news for my mood⁣
Not everyone loves the heat though and many people find it difficult to sleep on warm nights ⁣

If this is you, open your windows wide, invest in a low tog duvet, keep a glass of water beside your bed and place a bowl of ice in front of a simple bedroom fan.⁣

What Is Daydreaming?⁣

So what exactly is daydreaming? “Daydreams are positive fantasies or mental images about the future,” explains Gabriele Oettingen, Phd.⁣

Think about when your mind wandered off during your last Zoom meeting. Maybe you were thinking about what you were going to eat for lunch or you transported yourself back to a beach vacation.⁣

Benefits of daydreaming⁣

Like all things, daydreaming is best done in moderation. And when that’s the case, it can have some powerful mental health benefits—so put down your phone and give daydreaming a try.⁣

1. Daydreaming can improve your creativity⁣
Ever notice some of your best ideas come to you when you’re not thinking about them? You’re in the shower, then suddenly you know exactly how to solve that pesky problem. “With daydreaming, our mind can make connections that are a little bit further out there. ⁣

2. Daydreaming can help you manage anxiety⁣
One study found that allowing your mind to wander away from perceived stress (a.k.a. negative thoughts), you can actually reduce your anxiety. ⁣
Think of it like a mediation: Instead of pushing the feeling away, recognize it, accept it, and let the thoughts flow through you.⁣

Instead of just daydreaming about what you want broadly, as this can lead to loads of thoughts crowding for your attention, use a science-based strategy called WOOP to achieve it.⁣

In essence, you start by identifying your (realistic) wish, imagine the best outcome and obstacles, and then create a plan to overcome those obstacles.⁣

Done as you’re falling asleep, and over time, particularly if you stay with the same story line, you’ll find the “script” becomes fluent and familiar. ⁣
Before you know it, you’ll struggle to get to the end without falling into a deep sleep.⁣

Let me know if you try it 😘⁣

Just like pain, anxiety is different for every single person. Trying to describe to someone how anxious you are is virtually impossible as, even if the person you’re speaking to experiences anxiety, they will do so differently to you ⁣

Creating a 1 - 10 anxiety scale which is personal to you has several benefits ⁣

1. It helps you to communicate your anxiety levels to others. Another person can far more easily absorb that you’re at a red hot ten than they can “I’m more anxious than I was yesterday”⁣

2. It allows you to identify patterns and triggers ⁣
So if you recognise a high 7/8 every time you think about a certain situation or find yourself scoring high always in the evenings, this allows you to possibly find the cause of these high anxiety periods ⁣

3. Perhaps most useful of all - it allows you to evaluate if tools and techniques are working ⁣
You may practice some breathing exercises and “think” you feel better for it .... However if you score yourself a 9, do your exercises and then score a 2, you know for absolute certain that the techniques are working for you!! ⁣

So how to start.... begin with your calmest state and rate this a 1 .... now imagine you are on the brink of panic - rate this a 10. ⁣
Now identify your own personal 2,3,4, etc ⁣
They are YOUR scores ⁣
No matter how someone else might score any given number, it will always feel differently to yours so don’t waste your time comparing notes with others, this particular technique is for your own personal experience ⁣

Give it a try, you’ll be amazed what a huge difference it makes ⁣

Loads of love 💗

This is a Question I’m often asked⁣
Is my diffuser safe to run when my pets are around? ⁣

Let’s look at cats and dogs specifically ⁣

HOW DO ESSENTIAL OILS PUT MY CAT AT RISK?⁣

Established research has shown that essential oils can be toxic to cats, Exposure can lead to serious liver damage, seizures and even death.⁣

Felines are missing specific enzymes that provide the ability to properly process various compounds (called “gluconuridation”) found in essential oils, specifically phenols.⁣
Phenolic compounds occur naturally in plants and are highly concentrated in essential oils, leaving the liver the most vulnerable to organ failure.⁣
Essential oil and aromatherapy diffusers, candles, and room sprays are all sources of airborne essential oils that can be inhaled or licked off their fur. If you can smell the aroma of the oil, that means that there’s oil in the air.

General guidelines for the use of essential oils in homes with cats;⁣

Do not apply or feed essential oils directly to cats, or leave oils in areas where they may come in direct contact ⁣

Keep cats out of rooms with a high concentration of essential oils.⁣

The following essential oils are poisonous to cats:⁣
Cinnamon oil⁣
Citrus oil⁣
Clove oil⁣
Eucalyptus oil⁣
Peppermint oil⁣
Pine
Tea Tree
Wintergreen⁣
Ylang Ylang⁣

IS MY DOG AT RISK IF I USE ESSENTIAL OILS?⁣
A dogs’ sense of smell is much more keen than humans – this is very important to consider if you plan to use or diffuse essential oils in your home. ⁣

If you plan to use essential oils with/on your dog;
Keep all essential oils out of reach of curious dogs – ALWAYS ⁣
Do not apply pure essential oils topically or orally to your dog ⁣
Oils can be dangerous to dogs – especially tea tree oil ⁣

Passive diffusers are generally safe, as long as your pet doesn’t knock them over. Generally speaking, the more dilute the oil, the safer it is ⁣

For our canine friends, toxic essential oils include:⁣

Pine
Tea tree
Cinnamon
Citrus
Peppermint
Ylang Ylang⁣

As always, common sense wins every time⁣
Keep your rooms well aired, check the lists above for oils to avoid and enjoy your diffusers many benefits ⁣
Hope this helps ❤️

Question: Does it matter what time of the day or night I sleep as long as I get my full 8 hours?⁣

💡Answer: Though society is evolving to a 24-hour availability of services, our biology hasn’t yet caught up to accommodate shift work. ⁣

Our natural circadian rhythms are still triggered by darkness and light, so if you’re sleeping when it’s sunny outside, it’s not likely to be as refreshing. ⁣
You’ll also be facing additional daytime noise distractions.⁣

But if you find ways to block the daytime sound and light — blackout curtains, sleep mask, earplugs, etc. — and stick to the same schedule every day, then your body can adapt.⁣

Did you know this? Let me know in the comments ❤️❤️

Insomnia Tip ⁣

Let’s discuss evening lighting as this is an extremely important element in your sleep routine.⁣

We all have what are known as Circadian Rythms, these are part of our inner body clock and are driven by our brains.⁣
They tell us when we should sleep and when we should be awake ⁣
Our rhythms are responsive to many factors but a huge one is light.⁣

When it begins to get dark our brain tells our body to release a chemical called Melatonin. ⁣
This chemical is one of the things which enables us to get to sleep ⁣

Being in bright light right up until bedtime suppresses melatonin release and makes it harder to switch off ⁣

Flood your system with relaxing melatonin by turning down ALL lighting in every room you’ll go into at least an hour before bed. ⁣

It really does make a huge difference ⁣

And of course .... no screens in that hour ⁣
Screens emit energising blue light and stimulate the brain ⁣
Switch them off along with your big lights and you’ll really feel the difference in your sleep pattern ⁣

Set a time if you can as this will hard wire your circadian rhythm over time⁣

Loads of love 💓

Earthing … What is it?⁣

Earthing (also known as grounding) refers to contact with the Earth's surface electrons by walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems that transfer the energy from the ground into the body.⁣

This simple and effective practice can quickly lower anxiety levels and generally make you feel calm and peaceful 💕⁣
