Thank you to The German Hand Society for their keynote lecture invitation at the opening ceremony today. It was a privilege and pleasure to speak to the biggest society in Europe. Collaboration is key for our mutual success Looking forward to great things to come. Hand surgery is indebted to German innovation over the centuries. has just published an important report: The Impact of Pre-Packed Implants in Hand & Wrist Trauma.

This document examines the evidence around individually sterile-packed implants (PPIs) a topic with significant implications for patient outcomes, surgical safety, NHS resources, and environmental sustainability.

I want to congratulate and thank my colleagues who authored this report. Their work represents a thorough, evidence-based analysis of risks, benefits, and practical realities, and provides clarity in a field that urgently needs it.
For those of us in daily practice, the conclusions remind us of the need to balance regulation and innovation with surgical efficiency and patient-centred care.
