Developmental Assessments: A comprehensive understanding of your infant, toddler or pre-schooler.

Every child develops in their own unique way; some walk, talk, and play earlier, others take a little longer to get there. While there are broad milestones to guide us, there are no strict deadlines when it comes to your little one’s development.

If you have concerns about your child’s progress, or feel they’re struggling to meet expected milestones, a developmental assessment can help.

Our specialist assessments explore all areas of your child’s development, including cognitive, language, and motor skills, through play-based tasks, observation, and discussion. These assessments can help to:
🌱 Identify developmental delays or differences
🌱 Highlight areas of strength and challenge
🌱 Guide next steps for support or early intervention
🌱 Provide evidence for an EHCP application

We know that early identification makes a real difference, allowing for the right support at the right time to help your child thrive.

🧩 Assessments are available for babies from 16 weeks to pre-schoolers aged 4 (and for older children with significant developmental delays).

📍 Conducted by clinical psychologists using gold-standard tools and an engaging, child-led approach.

Every child’s brain winds down differently. For autistic, ADHD or dyslexic young people, sleep struggles can be about neurology, not necessarily naughtiness.

Start small: softer light, slower evenings, predictable steps. It’s progress, not perfection.

Cognitive Assessments at CAYP Psychology

Our cognitive assessments are designed to give the most comprehensive understanding of your child’s intellectual, academic and psychological profile.

Unlike a standard educational psychology assessment, our assessments are far more in-depth and can:
✨ Identify learning disabilities or specific difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia
✨ Highlight intellectual strengths and weaknesses
✨ Assess for giftedness
✨ Explore day-to-day functioning, social understanding and executive skills (like attention, memory and organisation)
✨ Provide clear recommendations for support at home, in school, or through an EHCP

The process includes a detailed developmental history, fun and engaging tasks with your child, and a thorough review of their day-to-day skills and wellbeing. You’ll then receive a clear written report with tailored recommendations.

We can assess children and young people from 16 weeks to 18 years, including those with complex needs or who are non-verbal.

Does your child seem to take things so personally, to the point where even small comments or changes feel overwhelming?

This might be Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), an intense emotional reaction to perceived criticism, rejection, or failure. It’s common in children with ADHD and Autism, but often misunderstood.

🌱 With the right understanding, children can feel safer, more confident, and supported in managing these big feelings.
