We were up early this morning, talking about how influential light is in our sleep-wake pattern - here on Rum, it’s bright by 4:30am - and even with your eyes closed, your body starts to respond.

Light is powerful like that. It’s a natural signal. And when we work with those signals, not against them, everything - including sleep - starts to feel easier.

We know that poor sleep is a major issue for many people feeling stressed, some people here with the Curtis Palmer Program struggle with sleep - maybe you have your own sleep issues too?

A huge number of the people we work with experience some form of insomnia - struggling to get to sleep, waking in the night, or waking up feeling as tired as when they went to bed.
I knew that pattern well but over time, using the practices we now teach in Back to Balance - breathwork, nervous system regulation, light exposure, movement, routine - my sleep gradually transformed. It didn’t happen all at once - small, consistent changes made a lasting difference.

Because improving sleep isn’t just about what we do at night-time, it starts in the morning. It starts with rhythm & giving your body the cues and support it needs to feel safe enough to rest.

Light in the morning helps reset your body clock and improves energy and sleep quality.

Breathwork helps calm the nervous system and reduce the stress that keeps you wired.

Simple, repeatable routines build a sense of safety and signal ‘it’s time to switch off’.

In our course ‘Back to Balance’, sleep is just one part of what we cover - but for so many people under chronic stress, it’s a key challenge. And when sleep starts to improve, everything else feels more manageable too.

We don’t just hand out tips. We help you understand why sleep has become so difficult, and how to gently shift the underlying patterns.

The tools we teach help you rebuild energy, regulate emotions, improve focus and recover from chronic stress in a way that’s doable, and sustainable.

This is whole-person care - simple, science-backed & delivered with knowledge & understanding.

“What you practise, you get good at.”

So, can we ask - what were your practices this Monday morning?

Snoozing the alarm again and again, then reaching straight for the coffee?
Mindlessly scrolling the news before you’re even fully awake?
Checking your work emails before breakfast has even crossed your mind?
Feeling tense? Rushed and overloaded?

So many of us practise habits that create a sense of stress before we’ve even left the house. And the nervous system wires that state in.
Before long, stress becomes the norm - a background hum that pervades your whole being.

That’s why, on our Back to Balance course, we do things differently.

We practise awareness.
We practise getting into the moment.
We practise tuning into the body.
We practise breathwork, gentle movement, caring for our sleep, and building steady routines.
We practise connection. And calm.

These practices are simple. Achievable. They build on each other.

Yesterday was something really special.

We had the honour of holding a retreat for - an incredible charity that supports parents of autistic children. The retreat was made possible by Pamela, William and Loraine, the heart and soul of Avalon, who know firsthand the daily challenges many of these families face. Their care and dedication made this day happen - and we’re so grateful to have worked alongside them.

What moved us most was the sheer strength, honesty and resilience of the parents who joined us. Their stories were deeply touching. They carry so much - and yet they showed up, open-hearted, ready to explore new tools to support their wellbeing. We were genuinely blown away by their courage.

It was a joy to share the practices we believe in so deeply:
🌿 Nutritional therapy with delicious, nourishing food
🌬️ Functional daily breathing and nervous system support
🌊 A dip in the wild, chilly loch!
🌱 Qigong, Yoga Nidra and nature connection
🔥 Our signature Dynamic Breathwork to shift stuck energy

And all of it held in the stunning Arrochar landscape.

We often say our work is about being in service - and it’s true. But this kind of day reminds us why we do it. Supporting incredible humans like these, and knowing that what we share may ripple out to support their children too, is something that makes us feel so proud and so grateful.

To every parent who came yesterday: you are superhuman. You inspired us. And it was a true privilege to hold space for you.

We’re en route to sunny Scotland this weekend to run a retreat with the incredible 💫 and we’re so excited to spend the day tomorrow sharing powerful self-care practices with such a wonderful group of parents.

And we’re also staying true to our own message - the medicine of self-care - and making space for what we need too.

Wild swimming, sunshine, good food, and a full day off work on Sunday 🥳

Because even when life is full on, it’s important to pause and fill your own cup.

Maybe it’s the work we do but we’re hearing more and more people say they’re feeling burnt out these days.

And in a podcast I was listening to yesterday, it touched on the problem that many people don’t recognise the early signs of burn out or exhaustion…

Slowly disconnecting from others or the world around you?
Not being able to think straight?
Getting snappy or irritated at the littlest things?Drinking more just so you can ‘relax’;
Feeling like you’ve lost your spark or can’t be bothered with the things that you once loved doing?

If this is you, you’re not alone.

Burnout has a way of creeping in quietly and suddenly everything feels… “too much”.

But here’s something you might not be aware of:

The way you breathe can completely shift how you feel - not only in the moment, but in how to respond to life’s stresses.

🌬️ Breathwork is a simple but powerful tool that can help calm your nervous system, ease anxiety, and bring you back to balance.

Do you know what the best thing is about the work we do?

The AMAZING people we get to work with 🥰

Serving those that serve us, our communities and country, is where our hearts lie!

We can only imagine the stress these guys are under: from investigating child exploitation, to drug and arms trafficking, these guys really are at the forefront of crime prevention in our country 💯
