Important Information - Road Works on Church Street

From 14th to 22nd February 2026, National Grid will be carrying out essential reinforcement work to the carriageway on Church Street and Old Manor Road. During these dates the road will be closed between the Turner Hall and mini roundabouts. Church Street will be used as a 2-way street to enable access for residents and patients to the surgery.

Patients that are able to walk are kindly asked to use Morrisons car park and walk round to the surgery as parking and space to turn around on Church Street will be extremely limited.

Please be mindful that you may need extra time for your journey as there are additional road works taking place in the nearby area which may cause disruption.

If you are no longer able to make your appointment, please contact the surgery on 01623 435551 to reschedule.

09/01/2026

Please take care when attending the surgery for appointments today.
If you are unable to attend please call the surgery from 8am to change your appointment.

Please be aware we may have to cancel or change some appointments if our staff are unable to safely travel into work

Long Term Condition Reviews and Blood Tests

Patients that have one of the following conditions and take regular medications will be invited into the surgery every year for an annual review of their health and medications.
• Asthma
• Copd
• Cardiovascular Disease including Hypertension, Coronary Heart Disease, Heart Failure, High Cholesterol
• Diabetes
• Dementia
• Mental Health
• Learning Disabilities
• Pre-Diabetes

An email invite containing a booking link will be sent the month before a patient’s birthday unless they were born January to March. Patients born in these months may be invited earlier to ensure we have time to offer everyone an appointment.
Patients that do not have access to email will be sent a letter or contacted by phone to book an appointment.

Certain long-term condition reviews may require a blood test, early morning urine sample or a diary of home blood pressure readings.
Some patients may not have a long-term condition but are taking medications that needs monitoring each year to ensure they are still taking the correct dose. Invites for blood appointments will also be sent via email, letter or patients will be contacted by the recall team.

It is extremely important that you book your blood test or review and attend the appointment. Patients that do not attend will have their medications amended to weekly prescriptions or stopped until they have been seen or reviewed. This is because is may no longer be safe for the doctor to prescribe medication until they have your results.

If you have a long-term condition and have not received an invite, please contact the surgery as soon as possible and request to speak to the recalls team.

Did you know that Oakwood Pharmacy is now offering the pharmacy first service?

The Pharmacist can give you advice on a range of conditions and suggest medicines that can help.

They may also be able to offer treatment and prescription medicine (including antibiotics) for some conditions, without you needing to see a GP.

This service is known as Pharmacy First. Conditions that can be treated are:

• earache (aged 1 to 17 years)

• impetigo (skin infection) (aged 1 year and over)

• infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)

• shingles (aged 18 years and over)

• sinusitis (aged 12 years and over)

• sore throat (aged 5 years and over)

• urinary tract infections (women aged 16 to 64 years)

If you go to a pharmacy with one of these conditions, the pharmacist will:
• offer you advice or treatment, or
• refer you to a GP or other healthcare professional if needed.

They will then update your GP health record.
If you are not within these age ranges, a pharmacist can still offer advice, but you may need to see a GP for treatment.

Changes to our Online Appointment Triage System

In line with new NHS England guidelines for all GP practices, from 1st October 2025 Oakwood surgery's online appointment triage system will be open 8am-6.30pm Monday-Friday.

All patient requests for doctors appointments will be triaged and reviewed within 48 hours, also in line with NHS England's guidelines.

Patients can complete the online triage tool using the link on our website. For patients unable to access the link themselves, there are self serve touch screens in our church street site's reception area, or help from our receptionists is available at the reception desk and over the phone.

Please note that patients are also able to contact 111, or visit PC24 at Kings Mill hospital if we have reached full capacity, or if they feel their medical issue needs to be reviewed sooner than the appointment offered.

There are no changes for appointment requests with nurses and health care assistants.
