Today we're celebrating International Nurses Day, which is a global appreciation event to honour the vital roles that nurses play in all of our lives at one time or another - both personally and professionally. It just so happens to be Florence Nightingale's birthday, too. This year's theme is “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.” We do not think it's possible to put into words quite how grateful we are for nurses' dedication, skill and compassion. To the amazing nurses on our team, those we have worked alongside, those we know amongst our loved ones and all who support and save us in so many ways, thank you from the bottom of our hearts

Did you know...? May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. As the days get longer and UV intensity is at its highest, it's so important to stay safe in the sun to reduce the risks associated with exposure - including sun burn, and increased risk of developing skin cancer.

- Seek shade, or avoid direct sun between 11am and 3pm, when UV rays are most harmful.
- Cover up wearing loose fitting, cool clothes with sleeves and long legs, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
- Apply suncream with a minimum SPF of 30 (suncream should have at least a 4-5 star rating for UVA protection) 15-20 minutes before you going, and re-apply every 2-3 hours.

It is also important to stay hydrated, and limit strenuous activity when the sun is at its hottest. Sun damage can occur on cloudy days too, so always take precautions to keep yourself, and your family, safe.

Today is the 81st anniversary of VE Day. Victory in Europe Day celebrates the formal acceptance by the allies of WW2 of Germany's surrender of its armed forces. After six years of conflict Germany officially surrendered and the conflict in Europe was over; a momentous day for all who witnessed it. It would be a further four months before Japan surrendered, signalling the end of the war
