Mansfield and Sherwood Ramblers

Mansfield and Sherwood Ramblers The local Ramblers Group for Mansfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and the surrounding area. You do not need to be a member to come and try any of our walks.

Mansfield and Sherwood Ramblers is the thriving local Ramblers Group for Mansfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and the surrounding areas. We organise walks of varying distance and difficulty, mostly on Sundays but often on weekdays and sometimes in the evening, led by a variety of trained leaders each with their own style and personality who have an extensive knowledge of the area, and often include visiting some unusual and surprising places. We also organise holidays and weekends away, open to friends and family too, which include walking some of the countries well known long-distance paths.

⚠️ Tissington Village - diversion in place

The Green is currently closed to traffic due to waterworks restricting immediate access to Tissington car park.

However, a diversion is in place (see map) and our car park remains open for visitors.

Very interesting.

Very interesting.

Nottinghamshire! A wonderful map of the shire of 1086 with its Anglo Saxon places names. The Normans dropped the S from Snottingeham to give us plain old Nottingham.

⛔ Road closure next week on A6187 - 27 to 31 Oct - 9am till 3.30pm

If you use the A6187 from Hathersage to Hope, you’ll be aware that we’ve had traffic lights on this road for a fair amount of time while we fixed damage to retaining walls at Dalmar House and opposite the garden centre.

Annoyingly, just after this work was finished and the road fully reopened, a vehicle hit Mytham Bridge. Stone blocks weighing up to a quarter of a tonne were pushed into the River Derwent below. So the traffic lights were back....

To safely fix this damage we do need to close the A6187 from next Monday, 27 October until Friday 31 October from 9am until 3.30pm each day. There will be a signed diversion route in place - the A6187 / A625 / A623 / B6049 / A6187.

As the road will be closed for all traffic, including buses, this will affect the 271/272. During the road closure times, this service will stop at Bamford railway station on the east side of the closure, passengers will be met by the shuttle bus driver, who will walk with them along and over the footbridge to get on the shuttle bus for onward travel. The walk is around 300m. The same will happen in reverse for passengers travelling in the opposite direction. For further information please contact the appropriate bus company.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this work may cause.

Criccieth Day 4 and we had two circular walks, one a little longer, around Criccieth. Both routes covered similar routes and took in part of the Welsh Coast Path and the Lloyd George Memorial. The longer walk followed the Afon Dwyfor inland through woodland before heading back to the beach where we met up with some that were on the shorter walk. We saw seals along the way too.
Thanks to Martyn and Stephen for leading today.

Our first full day of our holiday in Criccieth where we walked along the Welsh Coast Path from Porthmadog (longer walk) or Morfa Bychan (shorter walk). Weather could have been better as it rained for the whole of the walk.
Thanks to our leaders today, Merv and Brian.
Hoping for better weather tomorrow for our visit to Portmeirion
