Our Head of Sales & Marketing, Safoura Sardari attended the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Fire Rescue International Conference which took place in Orlando, Florida.
Thousands of the most prominent fire and emergency service leaders came together at the IAFC’s flagship event, to learn, network and collaborate.
Key highlights included Director of Fire and EMS at Nevada Public Safety Department, Raymond Reynolds, who has been elected to the Fire and Life safety Board of the IAFC. Chief Reynolds was also the recipient of the President’s Award in recognition of his work in addressing the public health issue of home oxygen fires, which claims dozens of lives that significantly affect hundreds of US citizens each year.
Safoura commented, “It was a genuine pleasure to see Ray achieve recognition for his relentless work in lobbying for mandating thermal fuses which will help save the lives of around 150 people and reduce the risk of over 1,000 significant burn injuries in the US each year”.
Thermal fuses have been provided to all U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs home oxygen patients since 2018, but there are still hundreds of thousands more people on oxygen who could benefit from thermal fuse technology.
The States of Iowa, Washington, North Dakota, Kansas and South Carolina have opted to reimburse home oxygen providers for thermal fuses through their State Medicaid systems. Meanwhile Missouri’s MO HealthNet Division – the state’s Medicaid program – issued a requirement in January 2025, that all Durable Medical Equipment companies must apply thermal fuses for patients using both stationary and portable equipment.
Safoura added, “Momentum to mandate thermal fuses for home oxygen users is really growing in the US, and the interest from Fire Chiefs at this year’s FRI has been overwhelming. You can feel the energy and drive to save lives”.
