Ever wake up after 8 hours of sleep… aaand still feel exhausted?
Yeah… me too. And it’s not just us. Sleep alone doesn’t cut it. Your brain, body, and even your soul need different kinds of rest to feel fully recharged.
Here’s how I think about it (and what I suggest to my clients):
1. Physical Rest 🛌💪
Not just sleep! Active physical rest might be rebounding on a trampoline, yoga, progressive muscle relaxation or going for a massage. Passive physical rest could look like taking a warm bath, using a weighted blanket for a nap, or listening to a guided relaxation.
2. Mental Rest 🧠
Give your brain a break from constant thinking. Try a mini “brain dump,” take a walk with no phone, or just let your mind wander. Fun fact: daydreaming actually boosts creativity.
3. Sensory Rest 👀👂
Screens, noise, bright lights… our senses are constantly on. Dim the lights, go to a sound bath or just close your eyes for a few minutes. Your nervous system will thank you!!!
4. Creative Rest 🎨✨
Creativity can burn out, too. Your brain needs a break, inspiration and beauty to regenerate creativity. Head over to a gallery, make a flow playlist to sing and dance too, or try keeping a notepad with you to add things that spark curiosity throughout the day.
5. Emotional Rest 💖
Ever feel like you have to bottle up your feelings or keep smiling for everyone? Give yourself permission to vent, cry, or dance it out. Journaling, vent playlists, or even letters you don’t send can help.
6. Social Rest 🤝
Not all social time energises you. Hang out with people who lift you up, try a solo coffee date, or just enjoy quiet co-presence. It’s okay to say “no” sometimes.
7. Spiritual Rest ✨
And yes, this isn’t just about religion. It’s about feeling connected and grounded. Sit outside in nature, watch the clouds, practice gratitude, or just notice something bigger than yourself. Even a few mindful minutes count.
💡 You don’t have to do everything. Notice what type of rest you’re craving today. Even 5–10 intentional minutes can reset your whole system.
