I see you… scrolling while your feelings are trying to get your attention 👋Instead of running from them, try this: notice it. Name it. Breathe.

I’ll be honest, I’m not always great at ‘sitting with it’ either. Some feelings are uncomfortable, messy, even painful. A common instict many of us have is to solve it, distract ourselves, move on. BUT avoiding feelings too quickly means missing their messages.

Feelings tell you when something’s off, when you need boundaries, or when it’s time to take a risk. Ignoring them can leave you stuck, make healthy choices harder, or even lead to unhealthy coping strategies.

So how do you actually sit with them?

Feelings are messy, loud, and inconvenient, but ignoring them comes at a cost. Learn why leaning in matters and how to actually sit with your emotions (without losing your mind).

Let me start with a confession: I used to push rest into the margins. Sometimes I’d tell myself “You can rest when things calm down, after the projects are done, once the to-do list gets ticked off”. Sound familiar?? It’s the same trap many people fall into: rest framed as reward, not a necessity.

In a world addicted to hustle, prioritising rest isn't just for when you have time - it’s a radical, countercultural act of wellness.

More on Radical Rest on the blog:

It feels uncomfortable at first (even rebellious) but that’s exactly why radical rest matters.

Ever wake up after 8 hours of sleep… aaand still feel exhausted?

Yeah… me too. And it’s not just us. Sleep alone doesn’t cut it. Your brain, body, and even your soul need different kinds of rest to feel fully recharged.

Here’s how I think about it (and what I suggest to my clients):

1. Physical Rest 🛌💪
Not just sleep! Active physical rest might be rebounding on a trampoline, yoga, progressive muscle relaxation or going for a massage. Passive physical rest could look like taking a warm bath, using a weighted blanket for a nap, or listening to a guided relaxation.

2. Mental Rest 🧠
Give your brain a break from constant thinking. Try a mini “brain dump,” take a walk with no phone, or just let your mind wander. Fun fact: daydreaming actually boosts creativity.

3. Sensory Rest 👀👂
Screens, noise, bright lights… our senses are constantly on. Dim the lights, go to a sound bath or just close your eyes for a few minutes. Your nervous system will thank you!!!

4. Creative Rest 🎨✨
Creativity can burn out, too. Your brain needs a break, inspiration and beauty to regenerate creativity. Head over to a gallery, make a flow playlist to sing and dance too, or try keeping a notepad with you to add things that spark curiosity throughout the day.

5. Emotional Rest 💖
Ever feel like you have to bottle up your feelings or keep smiling for everyone? Give yourself permission to vent, cry, or dance it out. Journaling, vent playlists, or even letters you don’t send can help.

6. Social Rest 🤝
Not all social time energises you. Hang out with people who lift you up, try a solo coffee date, or just enjoy quiet co-presence. It’s okay to say “no” sometimes.

7. Spiritual Rest ✨
And yes, this isn’t just about religion. It’s about feeling connected and grounded. Sit outside in nature, watch the clouds, practice gratitude, or just notice something bigger than yourself. Even a few mindful minutes count.

💡 You don’t have to do everything. Notice what type of rest you’re craving today. Even 5–10 intentional minutes can reset your whole system.

We talk about resilience like it’s an achievement, a badge of honour, something to earn and keep. Even in the therapy room, we're working towards building resilience and developing a better capacity for coping with stress, adversity and trauma. What isn't always obvious is that resilience isn't a fixed attribute, like "Hey, I'm resilient now! Nothing can get to me!"

No, unfortunately not. Resilience isn’t endless. It’s not some magic potion you can pour into every stressful situation until you reach enlightenment. It’s more like a container... and that container has limits.

I've always seen myself as resilient, but recently I was reminded that this isn't an innate personality trait I've attained, but a very dynamic and variable process. But who would've thought that planning an abroad wedding whilst moving countries, selling a house, building a business and completing my psychotherapy training would be my downfall? 👀

Read the rest of this post & have a go at my 'Window of Tolerance' self-audit here:

We talk about resilience like it’s endless, but even the strongest humans have limits. Your “window of tolerance” (the zone where you can cope without melting down or shutting off) shifts depending on life’s stressors. This post helps you spot your edges, notice what narrows or widens your w...

Feeling stuck lately? You’re not broken - but something probably needs your attention.

Sometimes feeling stuck looks obvious (hey thereeee burnout, endless overthinking, or big life challenges)

But other times, it’s sneaky: perfectionism, people-pleasing, saying yes when you mean no, or just feeling a bit… flat.

This comes up frequently on the therapy room. And often, what feels like “being stuck” is really a nervous system asking for rest, a pattern quietly running the show, or a life that’s no longer fitting who you’re becoming.

There isn’t one magical answer, but here’s 3 things I might start with when I client expresses feeling stuck. We’re not here to hustle our way out of every emotion, but we can learn to listen better, support ourselves more kindly, and take action that actually feels like us.
