Last week our residents refreshed the outdoor planters with a dark oak finish, preparing the space for the months ahead. Brushes in hand, steady strokes and careful attention to detail gave them a completely new look 🖌️

Taking part in maintaining shared spaces supports confidence, coordination and a sense of ownership within the rehabilitation environment. Summer is already in the making ☀️🌿

Colour, laughter and a steady hand with the gel polish 💅

Last week’s Pampering Morning at Askham Court saw our residents enjoying hand massages, choosing their shades and proudly comparing the finished results.

Taking time for self-care is not a small thing. It supports identity, confidence and routine, all important parts of rebuilding independence after complex injury.

Last Wednesday’s Food Travel at Askham Rehab took us to Latvia 🇱🇻

Iveta prepared Chicken Karbonade with dill potatoes and cabbage, a comforting, homely dish that brought warmth to the table. The flavours and stories behind the meal created a real sense of cosiness across the home.

Food has a way of bringing people together, and within rehabilitation, shared meals can support connection and belonging alongside structured therapy 🤎

We’re starting the week by celebrating a successful discharge at Askham Court 🤎

Last week, Kia completed his rehabilitation journey with us and returned home. Before leaving, he shared flowers and cards with the team involved in his care, a thoughtful way to mark an important milestone.

Such successful stories show the dedication of both resident and team. We’re proud to see Kia move forward and wish him every success as he continues his journey at home.

Pancake Day at Askham Rehab brought preparation, participation and plenty of sweet choices 🥞

Our residents were involved in preparing and enjoying pancakes, with thoughtful adaptations to ensure everyone could take part. In one of our homes, lemon cake was made for those on level diets, alongside homemade chocolate ice cream, so no one missed out on a treat 🍫

Ensuring access, choice and inclusion forms part of the wider rehabilitation environment here, supporting confidence and everyday participation alongside structured therapy 🤎

A big shout out to our kitchen team for last week’s Around the World Food Tour 🌍🍜

At Askham Court, the Sweet Chilli Chicken Noodles with stir fry vegetables were a real hit. Our residents were full of praise, with one describing it as “delicious” and another giving it a “10 out of 10”.

Thank you to our Chef and the whole kitchen team for another lovely lunch 🙏

Our Food Tour continues every Wednesday and we’d love to hear your suggestions for future destinations. Let us know where we should travel next 🌏

Rehabilitation at Askham Rehab does not happen in isolation.

Friday’s Valentine’s Afternoon Tea brought families into the rehabilitation environment, with our residents welcoming friends and relatives for live music from Stacy Rae and a carefully prepared menu, including gluten-free options.

Family presence, inclusion and shared experiences form part of the wider context in which recovery takes place. Specialist rehabilitation is strengthened by connection 🤎

Following a suggestion last week to include gluten-free options in our Friday Afternoon Tea, we’re pleased to share that this week includes both gluten-free and traditional choices at Askham Rehab ☕

Alongside sausage rolls and tea cakes, our residents can enjoy gluten-free alternatives, including Indian-inspired options such as samosas, pakoras and bhajis, which are naturally gluten free due to the use of Besan and Kuttu flour.

Responding to feedback and offering choice is part of everyday life here. Nutrition, dietary requirements and personal preference all sit alongside rehabilitation, helping create an environment that feels inclusive and considered.

Cooking at Askham Rehab last Friday focused on pancakes and waffles 🥞

Food preparation is used to strengthen independence. Measuring, mixing and coordinating movement draws on planning, sequencing, upper limb control and confidence in everyday tasks.

Rehabilitation here is built around regaining practical skills that support life beyond the rehab setting 🤎

We’ve launched a new weekly Food Tour 🌍

Every Wednesday, residents can explore flavours from around the world as part of our dining experience. Last week, we travelled to Nepal, with Kukhura Ko Masu served alongside Pulau 🇳🇵

Introducing different cuisines brings variety, conversation and shared experiences into the week, sitting naturally alongside rehabilitation and everyday routines.

Where should we visit next? Let us know in the comments 🌎👇

As part of our new menu, we’ve introduced Friday afternoon tea ☕🍰

Each week, our residents can enjoy a selection of traditional afternoon tea treats, prepared by our Executive Chef and his team. Last week’s menu included homemade cheese scones, Paris-Brest and a selection of sandwiches.

These shared moments form part of everyday life here, offering something familiar and enjoyable alongside rehabilitation and therapy. Routine, choice and comfort all matter 🤎
