Last week our Wednesday Food Travel took us to Italy, with the kitchen preparing Chicken Primavera served with orzo. A lighter, balanced dish, combining fresh ingredients and careful preparation.

At Askham Rehab, attention to flavour, presentation and consistency reflects the wider approach to hospitality, where meals are considered as part of everyday life, not an afterthought.

We’re still reflecting on yesterday’s launch of the Lower Limb Trauma Pathway at Askham Rehab, developed in collaboration with Beth Cordrey Occupational Therapy and Proactive Prosthetic and Orthotic Care.

There was a real sense of alignment across the day around how rehabilitation should be delivered following complex lower limb trauma, with conversations focusing on coordination, continuity and bringing the right expertise together at the right time.

Hearing different perspectives, alongside patient-led insight, added real depth and reinforced the impact that a well-structured pathway can have on long-term outcomes.

A strong day and an important step forward.

Today we’re launching our Lower Limb Trauma Pathway at Askham Rehab, in collaboration with Proactive Prosthetic and Orthotic Care and Beth Cordrey OT.

It’s a full day here, with presentations on the pathway, a patient-led experience session, discussions around rehabilitation approaches, and the opportunity to explore our facilities through guided tours.

We’re pleased to be welcoming case managers and legal professionals on site and to be sharing how a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach can support recovery following complex lower limb trauma.

Food can be a powerful part of the rehabilitation journey, not just in terms of nutrition but also in building routine, confidence and enjoyment.

As part of our Food Travel programme, we’ve shared the recipe for Kahari Kebab Khyberi, one of the dishes recently prepared by our team, now available on the Askham main website.

It’s a great example of how meals can be adapted to meet individual needs while still bringing flavour, variety and something to look forward to.

Supporting engagement through meaningful, culturally rich experiences is an important part of rehabilitation.

Last week for our Food Travel Wednesday, we explored Nigeria, with residents enjoying jollof rice, chicken and fried plantain 🇳🇬

Inspired by the cultural diversity of our team, these sessions introduce a range of flavours while encouraging conversation, participation and shared experience.

On Tuesday, our residents in Askham Court enjoyed a spot of baking, creating two lovely Easter cakes ready for the celebrations ahead 🐣🍰

There was plenty of anticipation as everyone looked forward to trying them after lunch and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

Time in the kitchen encourages practical skills, builds confidence and creates opportunities for connection in an enjoyable setting.

A lovely way to get into the Easter spirit this week 😊

Last week for our Food Travel Wednesday, we travelled to Spain and enjoyed a chicken and chorizo paella 🇪🇸

At Askham Rehab, activities like Food Travel are designed with purpose. Exploring different cuisines can support appetite, stimulate memory and encourage social interaction, all of which play an important role in rehabilitation.

As we move into April, we’re coming to the end of our Food Travel journey, which will see us having explored nearly 20 different countries, many reflecting the nationalities of our team.

A great example of how everyday experiences can be used to support engagement, wellbeing and progress within a rehabilitation setting.

March has been a wonderful month across Askham Rehab, filled with creativity, connection and plenty of moments to enjoy together.

🥣 Our Cooking Club has been busy, preparing a range of delicious treats including an old school cake, a lemon and blueberry cheesecake and many more recipes that brought both nostalgia and new flavours to the table.

🌿 Outdoors, our residents have been making the most of the brighter days, painting planters and caring for our garden spaces. It’s been lovely to see everything starting to come together, with everyone taking pride in creating a space to enjoy.

🎲 There has also been lots of fun and movement with sessions on the OM Interactive, alongside our much-loved Wednesday Food Travel, taking us around the world through different cuisines.

📖 We marked World Book Day, and of course, Mother’s Day, where we shared appreciation flowers to celebrate the important people in our lives.

And to add a sweet touch to the month, the ice cream trolley brought plenty of smiles to residents and team members alike.

Thank you to everyone who made March such a special month 💛

Seeing technology used in a way that feels accessible and engaging makes a real difference.

In this video, David is using the OM Interactive, interacting with the screen using a handheld stick to reach and respond to the games. The combination of movement, sound and familiar themes creates a natural way to take part.

It’s a great example of how simple adaptations can support engagement, coordination and confidence within our rehab centre.

Our Wednesday Food Travel last week brought Indian flavours to the table.

The menu featured chicken biryani, chickpea and vegetable curry and a mint and coriander yoghurt, combining rich spices with fresh, cooling elements 🍛

A menu built on depth of flavour, balance and careful preparation, all part of the variety we continue to offer at Askham Rehab.
