May has been a busy and meaningful month across Askham Rehab 🌿

Throughout the month, we marked important awareness events including Mental Health Awareness Week, Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day, World MS Day and International Nurses Day, continuing conversations around specialist rehabilitation, wellbeing and multidisciplinary support.

We also celebrated:

β€’ our continued partnership with Cognishine Therapy & Education
β€’ residents enjoying more time outdoors through gardening at Askham Court
β€’ multiple shortlist nominations at the Great British Care Awards 2026

Our recent Trivia Night brought another great evening of conversation, laughter and friendly competition across Askham Rehab ✨

We were especially proud to see residents from Askham Grove join the event, helping bring people together from across the wider community.

Alongside rehabilitation itself, opportunities to take part in social events and shared experiences continue to play an important role in confidence, wellbeing and maintaining connection throughout everyday life.

This Saturday marks World MS Day.

Multiple Sclerosis can affect individuals in very different ways, often impacting mobility, fatigue, coordination, cognition and day-to-day independence. Rehabilitation therefore requires approaches that remain flexible, multidisciplinary and tailored to the individual throughout their journey.

At Askham Rehab, we support individuals living with MS through specialist rehabilitation including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy, nursing support and wider multidisciplinary input, with rehabilitation focused on independence, symptom management and long-term quality of life.

Tomorrow marks Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day.

Spinal cord rehabilitation often involves complex recovery pathways requiring coordinated support across physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, hydrotherapy and wider multidisciplinary rehabilitation. Approaches need to remain structured, responsive and tailored to the individual throughout recovery.

At Askham Rehab, rehabilitation following spinal cord injury forms part of a wider commitment to supporting independence, adaptation and long-term outcomes through specialist rehabilitation and collaborative clinical practice.

Last week marked the final stop on our Food Travel journey at Askham Rehab 🌍

The menu explored the flavours of Tanzania, with Kuku Paka, Kachumbari, masala spinach and flavoured rice prepared to close the culinary tour. The final destination reflected the heritage of the Askham founders, bringing the series to a meaningful conclusion.

Throughout the programme, the menus introduced a wide range of flavours, textures and familiar influences from across the world, helping bring variety and interest to dining across the service.

Yesterday we celebrated International Nurses Day at Askham Rehab, taking the opportunity to recognise and thank our nursing teams for everything they do each day πŸ’™

Across rehabilitation, nurses play a vital role in supporting individuals through every stage of recovery, combining clinical expertise with reassurance, consistency and encouragement throughout the rehabilitation journey.

The day was marked with small tokens of appreciation, cake and plenty of laughter shared across the service, alongside thoughtful messages and gestures of thanks from residents, patients, families and colleagues.

Mental wellbeing can be shaped by the everyday connections people build around them.

Within rehabilitation, social interaction, conversation and shared experiences can all influence confidence, engagement and how individuals experience each day. Creating opportunities for people to feel connected continues to form an important part of the wider approach across Askham Rehab.

As Mental Health Awareness Week begins, we recognise the value of community, support and meaningful human connection throughout rehabilitation.
