Thanks to Fox Narrowboats’ fundraising, the staff were able to donate £2,126.25 to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices Cambridgeshire.

The money was raised by running skippered boat trips at the March town St Georges Fayre, holding a book stall in the office throughout the year and finishing with a Christmas tombola.

Tracey Baxter, Fox Narrowboats’ finance director, said: “I am delighted with the amount raised for EACH this year.

“I would like to thank all of our customers and supporters that have enabled us to raise such a large amount of money.”

Karen Newton, EACH Cambridgeshire fundraising manager, added: “We’re delighted to have the support of Fox Boats and are incredibly impressed with the generous sum.

“These funds will ensure we can provide vital care and support to local life-threatened children, young people and their families.”

In 2016 Fox Narrowboats will be partnering with MAGPAS Helimedix. One of the first events for the charity will again be the popular boat trips at the St Georges Fayre.

Checklist

Mobility scooters can offer you a great deal of independence. There are many different types available and prices can range from under £400 to over £5,000, depending on the size and quality of the scooter.

Because there's so much variety, it's important to think about what will suit you before you buy. Find a scooter that's comfortable, easy to use and suited to what you want to use it for.

Shop around and try out different types before you commit to anything.

This guide aims to help you decide whether a scooter is for you and, if so, what type to go for. Use the quick guide below to get an idea of what to think about,

Our mobility scooter checklist can also help you work out what to look out for.

Top tips:

Before getting a scooter:
What do you want it for?

Decide what size and type you need:
Small (Class 2) scooters can go on pavements. Some can be dismantled and put in your car boot. The smaller they are, the easier they are to use indoors, store and transport.
Class 3 scooters are larger and can go on the road. They're more robust and better at travelling for long distances.
Will you use your mobility scooter on public transport?
Try before you buy

Try out different scooters to see what suits you, and don't buy anything without having a test drive.

25/11/2015

A disabled drivers badge could cost £10 for three years instead of £9 and the cost for replacing lost or stolen badges could rise from £5 to £10.

People are being asked to have their say on the plan for the mini price hike which would make the county fall in line with the national statutory amount.

Currently it costs Cambridgeshire County Council around £312,700 to administer the Blue Badge scheme but the council only receives £97,000 in income from badge applicants.

Members of the general purposes committee approved the launch of a consultation which will help understand the community impact of the proposed increase and whether any future reasonable rise should be linked to national guidelines.

With £41 million to find in savings next year and more demand on council services the authority is looking at ways to reduce costs while protecting frontline services.

Even with the extra £17,000 income from the proposed increased charges the full cost will not be covered and the council will still subsidise the scheme by around £198,000.

The costs of providing the badges has risen in the recent years as new anti-fraud and security measures have been introduced nationally.

Around 18,000 Blue Badge holders will be e-mailed about the survey and people will also be able to provide feedback or request a paper copy.

The survey closes on January 5 and can be found on the council’s website.
