When you trust me to support your loved ones, they don’t become a client, they become an extended part of my family.

My family often ask about the wonderful people I care for, just as the people I support love hearing about and looking through photos of my family too. It creates such a special bond and reminds me every day how meaningful this work is.

Yesterday was my lovely Mum’s birthday, and one of the gentlemen I support wanted to sing to her. It absolutely made her day, and seeing how happy he was to be involved was so heartwarming.

Moments like these mean the world to me and are a beautiful reminder that care is so much more than a job, it’s about connection, kindness, and becoming part of each other’s lives.

🍓I’ve had lots of messages asking about the Jelly drops I mentioned in my hydration post. 🍓

I will share some pictures of them below. There are a lot of fakes on the market so make sure they are from www.jellydrops.com.

I have used them with Service Users before and they really help, I often find individuals with Dementia can forget to drink but have a sweet tooth so these can be eaten as a snack. Suitable for those with Diabetes too. I am more than happy to answer any questions. 💚

🌸 I feel like a very proud parent this evening. 🌸

These girls are all incredible. Every single one of them has grown so much in confidence over the past few weeks. In the first session, none of them spoke to one another and now they’re sitting together chatting, sharing their thoughts, discussing answers, and supporting each other.

This evening, two of the older girls even led the icebreaker session at the start. Considering they didn’t contribute in the group discussion during the first week, I couldn’t be prouder.

They are all so respectful, supportive, and kind to one another. Well done girls 💖

I’m sad that next week is our final session, but so grateful to have had you all join me. It’s been such a pleasure watching you grow.

I have left the sound on so you can hear the lovely discussions going on. 🥰

🌼🌞 Tomorrow is going to be warm, and it’s only going to get hotter as the week progresses. 🌞🌼

Please remember to keep an extra eye out for dehydration in elderly relatives and loved ones. Older people can become dehydrated much more easily than others, especially during hot weather.

During my visits this week, I’ll be encouraging all service users to drink more fluids and making sure plenty of drinks are left easily accessible throughout the day.

A few little tips I find helpful:

💧 If someone has dementia, they may not think to drink unless they can actually see a drink nearby. Keeping a filled water bottle or cup within reach can really help, especially something easy to hold and drink from.

🍋 If they don’t enjoy plain water, try adding squash, lemon or lime slices, or offering their favourite drinks little and often.

🍉 Snacks with a high water content, such as watermelon, cucumber, strawberries, jelly, or oranges, can also help keep hydration levels up.

🍓 For those who struggle with fluids, there are also hydration jelly sweets available, which can be great for anyone with a sweet tooth.

🍽️ It’s completely normal for appetites to drop during hot weather, so try not to worry too much about food intake and focus more on fluids.

🌡️ Lastly, if someone has a tendency to turn the heating up high, it may help to switch it off at the main source to avoid overheating.

Stay safe, stay cool, and keep hydrated everyone 💚

🌸 Week 2 Complete 🌸

This week we explored friendships and conflict 💚

Talking about what makes a good friend, how to handle situations that make us feel unsafe or upset, and who we can turn to when things aren’t going the way we’d like them to.

It’s been so lovely watching the girls grow in confidence each week. Every session starts with an ice breaker, and by the end of the evening you can really see them opening up, supporting one another, and sharing their thoughts so respectfully ✨

Tonight’s little experiment sparked some really honest and reflective conversations… ask the girls to tell you all about it 🫶

Here’s a tiny snapshot of some of the things we got up to. 💚

This gentleman had me belly laughing tonight 😂 Just one of the many reasons why I love what I do. Hearing the laughs and seeing the smiles, knowing I’ve made even a small difference to someone’s day, means everything 💙

It was really surprising to see how many of the girls in my workshop struggled to identify positive things about themselves. It was so lovely to read this, especially as it focused on so much more than appearance alone.

That’s exactly why workshops like mine are so important. We aim to highlight all the amazing qualities these girls have that aren’t based on how they look, while giving them the confidence boost they so need at this stage in their lives.
