I was inspired to train as a Civil Funeral Celebrant when I participated in the planning and delivery of my mother’s funeral ceremony in 2016. My determination to “get it right” for my mum made me reflect on the possibility of helping others through the planning, and delivery of a funeral service. This led to me undertaking national training with www.civilceremonies.co.uk and qualifying as a funeral celebrant in 2016. It is a privilege for me to support bereaved families through one of the most stressful and emotional periods of their life. I have met some wonderful people and have been told many extraordinary stories. The people encountered not only include the families, but also from within the funeral profession. Previously, I have worked in education all my life with a focus on Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). I am qualified in Speech, Language and Communication and also in nurture and well-being. Communication is key in all roles and I believe my experience within the education sector has given me a breadth of experience and knowledge in helping me as a celebrant. I passionately believe in what I am doing, and feel that this is my vocation. I am humbled by the comments and sincere expressions of thanks that I receive from families.
