Janine and Kathryn treat babies and children of all ages using osteopathic techniques to help balance their musculoskeletal systems. This can help with aches, pains, discomfort or asymmetry in their bodies. The long bones in the arms and legs fuse in the teenage years, the vertebrae at 22 years old and the sacrum (tailbone) between 25-30 years old. Treating childhood traumas and injuries before the bones fuse helps to prevent problems continuing and becoming chronic in adulthood.

When Janine opened the practice in 1995, she handled everything on her own, from treating patients to managing administration and even cleaning.

In 2025, she is lucky enough to have an amazing team working alongside her including osteopaths, a counsellor, a homeopath, an acupuncturist, a hypnotherapist and 2 receptionists who help her manage the practice.

We are all feeling sad today as our lovely colleague and amazing osteopath, Lara Field, leaves us to develop her own practice. She has been a part of the team at Hales Osteopathic Practice for over 3 years. Many of our patients will miss her skilled treatments . We all wish her lots of success in her career and happiness in life. We still have a choice of 3 osteopaths at the Practice: Janine Lees, Ian Clarke and Kathryn Riley.

The Osteopaths met for their 2 monthly study session last week. We were focusing on techniques to treat ribs. This topic was chosen because we have seen a lot of patients recently, who have been coughing and sneezing, following all the nasty viruses that have been around during the winter. This has left some patients with pain in the ribs due to the forceful nature of coughing and sneezing leading to strains in the joints where the ribs attach to the spine or the muscles in between the ribs.

Today, Acupuncturist Julia Ugrinic saw her first client at Hales Osteopathic Practice. We are delighted that she will be working alongside us and that we can offer acupuncture as well as our other therapies which include: Osteopathy, Counselling, Homeopathy and Hypnotherapy.
