Mark's Tasty Biltong

Mark's Tasty Biltong For all those who are craving that taste from Africa, tickle your taste buds with "Marks Tasty Tong", home made to your own personal preference.

Made to order just how you like it. Wet, dry, fatty, lean, sliced and in sticks. It takes 48 hours to make our biltong so please allow plenty of time for the order to reach you fresh. We do plain, chilli, garlic and chillic (chilli and garlic mix), chilli bites, plain bites and dryvors. Enjoy your Biltong at its best. I love making Biltong as much as i hope you do eating it. Each piece of Biltong is handmade, hand cut and prepared by me, so it’s important to me to make sure you enjoy it as much as I do making it. Biltong is a natural product, which needs to be stored in a natural way. The "wetter" you like your biltong, the faster is can go mouldy. The more moisture in food, the higher the probability that mould can occur, (no matter what preservatives some companies use). So please take extra care storing moist biltong. I doubt it will ever last that long though. Here in the UK it is wet and humid and not great for making or preserving biltong! Therefore, we have to help the biltong remain dry and fresh in an area with as low humidity as possible! To get the best 'life' out of your biltong, care needs to be taken to store it properly and avoid any spoilage. After all, it is a natural 'moist' food substance and not indestructible as some people might think! The only reason for biltong, or any other dried meat, to go off is due to incorrect storage! Be aware that the wetter biltong is, the shorter the life. Once opened, put the biltong in an OPEN bowl and mix it up a bit. Mix it up daily for a maximum of 4 to 6 days or until consumed. Most mould starts to happen when the biltong comes into contact with another 'surface'. Moisture then forms at that surface contact point. The inevitable and unavoidable universal process then starts... MOISTURE + OXYGEN + WARMTH = MOULD. You can keep biltong fresh in the fridge or even in the freezer, however, i cannot advise you as to how long. Suffice to say, the choice is yours. If you have frozen your biltong, it will naturally release moisture once it starts to defrost. This is the danger time! Make sure it is aired and that any moisture that is being released as a result of the refrigeration or freezing, evaporates away. Keep on mixing it up and loosening the bundle of sliced biltong. Eat within 3 to 6 days. Hang whole sticks from a hook or string, in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Never store in a sealed container, it will sweat. This will lead to mould. Biltong needs to 'breathe'. Many people buy biltong because it's a great alternative to unhealthy snacks like chips, chocolate bars, fries, and the like. While we don't often think of snack foods as being part of a healthy diet, biltong is a very important exception. Our high-quality biltong is made from the very best cuts of beef and no added artificial preservatives, quality biltong deserves a place in every healthy diet as a snack or a quick meal on the go.. Biltong has numerous health benefits like the following:

• Excellent source of protein
Protein builds muscle. Individuals who work out intensely need a great deal more protein than others, in order to get the best results from their workouts.

• Low in carbohydrates
You can still enjoy delicious biltong and still provide your body the energy it needs. Many outdoor enthusiasts buy biltong for them to take along when they go hiking, camping, cycling and the like. Just a few bites and you're ready to roll. Weight loss fans are also encouraged to eat biltong as a substitute for other low-carb meat products since it's healthier and more delicious. What makes " Marks Tasty Tong" a healthy biltong option:

Not chemically processed. Chemical preservatives can be used to prevent oxidative spoilage. These added peservatives may be considered potentially hazardous to your health because of their very high chemical content like ; added Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Nitrate, Sulphur dioxide, artificial coloring, flavourants, and added preservatives. Our production method keeps a close eye on the ‘moisture–to-protein’ ratio which needs to be adequate to assist in preventing microbiological spoilage, rather than the introduction of added chemical processing as well as utilizing the finest herbs and spices.
