Maternal mental health awareness week is this week.

4th - 10th may

It's a topic so very close to my heart and one of the main reasons Ready Baby Go exists.

From the depths of postnatal depression (borderline psychosis) grew a love and passion for supporting new mothers on their transitional journey.

Becoming a mother can be the most paradoxical change you ever experience. Boredom and overwhelm all at once, love and hate, lonely but never alone.

I struggled, I struggled HARD. I contemplated things that now seem so alien and extreme. But when the fog lifted, and I spoke more openly, the more I discovered I wasn't alone in this experience.

Healthcare professionals have a legal duty to explain their policies, guidelines, and recommendations during their care of you.

But your consent must be given to follow these.

If you don’t agree, you are not legally required to consent just because something is “hospital policy”.

Guidelines are there to support healthcare professionals in a system that cannot be left wild! But that does not mean they override your autonomy.

Respectful care means listening, discussing, and honouring informed choice. Anything less than has no place in your care.
