In a world that encourages rushing through tasks, emotions, and even life itself, it can feel counterintuitive to slow down. But when we pause, we create space to truly lean into ourselves, to notice what we’re feeling and what we need.
Sometimes, the pace of life sweeps us along, filling us with ideas of what we “should” be doing or feeling. But the truth is, the only way to connect with yourself is to pause and acknowledge what is, not what is expected. Right now, I feel exhausted, teary, and a little disconnected. I don’t need to know why. What matters is noticing and responding to these feelings with care, rather than pushing them aside to meet an external standard of “getting it right.”
For much of my life, I’ve pushed through, doing what’s expected, what looks right, what keeps things moving. But I’ve learned that honoring yourself means listening to your body and mind in all their forms. At the start of this new year, when so many are setting resolutions and chasing productivity, my whole being longs to hibernate: to sleep longer, eat nourishing foods, move slowly, be quiet, and retreat from the world.
I crave the grounding energy of nature, a walk by the sea, the swell of the tide, but the rain and cold keep me inside. So instead, I turn inward. I lean into my practices: sitting with my breath, resting with my feelings and giving myself permission to slow down. As a mother, I’m often pulled in many directions, but I’m learning, slowly, that my needs matter too. It’s still hard to prioritise myself, but it’s a work in progress and every small step counts.
This year, my schedule is intentionally lighter, designed to reflect what I teach and what I strive to live myself: balance, self-awareness, and honoring our inner rhythms. There are still plenty of opportunities to join me, to explore your own needs and feelings in a supportive space. Visit www.trueyoga.co for my full schedule and to make a booking 🙏🏻✨
