Gotta love some sparkle! Xmas is coming! We’ve had a lot of fun face to face this week with EWBeard in Stratton and Newbury getting the team up to speed as Mental Health First Aiders. Humbled by the depth of conversations we had on difficult topics. Modeling emotional intelligence and vulnerability is never easy but soooo worth it!

Welcome, my name is Debs Sheppard and I provide Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to individuals, groups and businesses.
We all know how important it is to look after our physical health, but what about our mental health? If you break an arm, it’s easy for others to see that you’re injured and need help. But what if it’s your mind that’s broken? Who sees that? Who’s there to help? I’d love it to be you!
WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?
It’s a skill that preserves life (where there is a risk of self-harm or harm to others), helps prevent mental health issues from becoming more serious, provides comfort and promotes recovery.
Often, the person who is mentally ill is unable to ask for help or recognise their illness. A fully trained mental health first aider can spot the signs, ask the right questions and has the knowledge, confidence and ability to help.
WHO SHOULD BE DOING IT?
Everyone, from young adults, parents, care-givers and teachers to business owners, HR directors and public/private sector employees. All you need is the skill to recognise when something is wrong, and the capability to help someone find the right road to recovery.
Each year, 1 in 4 of us will experience some sort of mental ill health. How amazing would it be if you knew what to do? After all, it could be a member of your own family, one of your friends or a work colleague who needs help.
