It was established in the former Union Workhouse in 1930 and took children from all over Wiltshire. In the 1950s the Matron was Mrs Harral and the Medical Officer was Dr. Tim Maurice followed by Dr. Dick Maurice. was Dr. Dick (a dynasty of Maurices in Marlborough have all been known by their Christian names) whose major interest was the Children's Hospital and who attended on Saturday or Sunday afternoons to meet visiting parents. The hospital had closed by 1994 and has now been converted into flats, with houses built in the grounds. There is a book by Dick Maurice - The Marlborough Doctors, Alan Sutton Publishing, 1994, ISBN 0 07509 0831 9 - that contains several references to the Children's Hospital.
