This weekend the government are undertaking a national test of the Emergency Alerts system. Most mobile phones and tablets across the UK will receive a notification, accompanied by a loud siren-like sound and vibration that will last for approximately 10 seconds. This test is scheduled to take place on *Sunday 7th September 2025 at 3pm*.

We are aware that some people living under the shadow of domestic violence may have a mobile phone they use for safety purposes, one their abuser will not be aware of.

In these situations, a concealed or secret phone can be an important form of communication; it may even be the only lifeline in an emergency.

Ahead of the national test we would encourage those in these situations to turn off their phones to prevent any detection. It is also possible to deactivate the alert before it happens. The Emergency Alerts system is an important tool for reaching the public in emergency situations. However, if you need to turn off these alerts (including the test), visit gov.uk/alerts/opting-out for step-by-step instructions.

September is World Alzheimer’s Month, an international campaign to combat stigma and raise awareness, so that everyone knows the signs and symptoms of dementia and how to get support when they need it.

This month and always, we’re raising awareness and understanding of dementia and showing that it will take a society to beat dementia. We’re also introducing our new look and feel for Dementia Friends, but our core mission of raising awareness and changing attitudes to dementia remains the same.

Keep an eye on our social media during September as we'll be sharing more information about how you can show your support this .
