Reflecting on the year gone may also help you notice things you don’t want to carry forward, or areas you’d like to gently change or improve.

These reflections can be really valuable when explored with compassion rather than criticism. Instead of focusing on what’s “wrong,” it can help to ask: What small, positive shift could I make to start with?

Small changes often create the foundation for bigger, longer-term growth.

My mantra is always: “Tell yourself what you’re going to start, not what you’re going to stop.”

The new year can be a meaningful time to reflect on the year just gone, even when it feels like everyone around us is focused on moving ahead, setting goals, and making resolutions.

Personally, I believe there is great value in looking back—acknowledging what went well, noticing the highlights, and recognising what we feel grateful for.

This kind of reflection can gently reveal what you may want more of in the year ahead, in ways that feel personal, intentional, and aligned with you.

I would love to hear some in the comments! 🥰

Happy New Year! 🙌

As a counsellor, I’m definitely not here to promote the “New Year, New Me” mindset.

What I do believe in is using this time as a gentle opportunity to pause and reflect—especially when life so easily sweeps us along at a relentless pace.

Follow along for upcoming posts on simple, supportive ways to slow down, check in with yourself, and prioritise your mental wellbeing 🥰

🎁Give yourself the gift of a social media break🎁

Constant scrolling can leave us feeling drained, anxious, or overwhelmed. Stepping away, even for a short time, can help you:
✨ Reduce stress and mental clutter
✨ Improve focus and productivity
✨ Sleep better and feel more rested
✨ Reconnect with yourself and the real world

Give yourself permission to unplug—you might be surprised at how refreshing it feels! 🌿💛

🎁Give yourself the gift of a breath of fresh air🎁

Spending time outdoors isn’t just refreshing—it’s a natural boost for your mind and body. Fresh air can:
✨ Reduce stress and anxiety
✨ Improve focus and mental clarity
✨ Boost your mood and energy
✨ Support better sleep

Even a short walk or a few minutes in your garden can help you feel calmer, more grounded, and recharged. 🌿💛

Take a moment today to step outside and let nature do its magic!

🎁 Give Yourself a Little Gift This Christmas 🎁

The festive season can quickly fill up with social plans, but it’s okay to say no.

Protecting your time and energy isn’t selfish—it’s self-kindness. If you’d rather rest, recharge, or simply have a quiet moment to yourself, that’s a gift worth giving. 💛

If this is something you find particularly difficult, building your assertiveness can make a real difference.
My online self-help course offers an evidence-based approach, with clear, informative videos that guide you step-by-step through developing confident, healthy communication skills.
