Small acts of kindness can help world peace by creating a ripple effect of empathy. I sat for peace at the Vajarasattva Kadampa Meditation Centre in Dumfries. If like me you prefer a slightly deeper drop in class they offer a monthly 3 hour meditation workshop.

I've used this sankalpa since beginning my yoga journey in 2012. A sankalpa is a heartfelt positive statement that reflects your deepest desire. It differs from a resolution where the focus is on fixing flaws. Instead, it becomes a seed that's planted in the subconscious, where it guides self transformation by connecting to your inner wisdom and purpose.

Between a rock and a hard place is what sprung to my mind during my meditation practice today. Literally sitting on a rock and observing the mental processes! Socks and shoes firmly on after having accidently stood on a jelly fish. You could hear my scream the full length of Croy shore. I did say sorry.

Rather than a 'tick list', meditation is about being present and aware. It's a practice that cultivates a state of mind. By practising non judgemental observation, meditation encourages observation of your thoughts and feelings. With regular practice you can learn to shift from chaos to calm.
I felt calm meditating outside under the tree at Rozelle, even though I had one peak through my sunglasses to observe my environment. Whereas when I was at home, I fidgeted, pandiculated, scratched, sneezed, coughed, got lost in thought, and checked the time. I was 8+ minutes into my meditation before I settled. I continued to sit. I needed the practice.
