One of the 7 steps in is PLAY and as well as doing the 7 steps during my classes I also endeavour to live them in my daily life. Today thanks to and I got to play and have lots of Halloween Fun “we don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing” 🧙🏻‍♀️👻🎃

🌸 Endometriosis & Adenomyosis: More Than a Diagnosis 🌸

This week, I’ve supported four women in their 30s and 40s — two with newly confirmed endometriosis and 3 with adenomyosis.

Each sharing stories of years of pain, dismissal and perseverance.

I also received a message from a mum whose 16-year-old daughter has just received her diagnosis after three years of banging down doors. And spoke to two other about their daughters menstrual health.

“We were lucky enough to have a great gynaecologist behind us (although it must be said that she initially dismissed our concerns and said it couldn’t be endometriosis).

However, we persevered and continually produced diary after diary of symptoms.

It turns out that after we got her onside, she had to argue her case for six months before an MRI was granted, solely based on her age.

She is now only one of two girls who have been allowed an MRI to diagnose endometriosis in the Southern Trust. Hopefully the fact that she has a diagnosis is reason to maybe allow other girls to have a chance.”

Finally being heard and having a diagnosis can bring such relief but the options offered can feel very difficult to navigate particularly with no guarantee of success; hormonal birth control, invasive surgery, or hysterectomy.

A holistic approach doesn’t mean excluding Western medical or pharmaceutical treatments.
It means looking at you as a whole person; body, mind, and spirit and supporting you through that lens.

Women deserve care that heals not only the physical symptoms, but the emotional, mental, and energetic impact of living with these conditions.

💛 To every woman navigating this journey: you are more than your diagnosis, you don’t have to walk this path alone. Please get in touch if you think I can support.

*** I meant saturated and not hydrogenated****

UPF’s, GLP1’s you are much more than 3 letters. If you are a wellness or healthcare professional, you have a moral and ethical responsibility to have that conversation through a holistic lens.

Anyone working in this space—health coaches, fitness instructors, practitioners and particularly influencers with no qualifications has a duty of care.

A duty to the vulnerable, to those experiencing health anxiety, and to those living with eating disorders. For more info and to get balance on the conversation please check out .eating.dietitian both who post very specifically on the Eating Disorder Space and also who often with a bit of humour brings a bit of practical balance to some of the nonsense messages that are out there. Note if you are experiencing or recovering from an Eating Disorder Sean’s content might not be right for you.

Thank you Ann-Marie of .group for inviting me to speak today at your Team Well Being Day. Now Group are a fantastic Social Enterprise who have inclusion at the heart of everything they do.

It was great to talk about the 5 Pillars of health particularly nutrition and sleep through a holistic lense. Often these conversations aren’t inclusive or compassionate and can be rooted in thin body privilege, obesity bias, weight stigma, diet culture and fat phobia. They often fail to consider the principles of Health At Every Size, the impact of disordered eating behaviours and diet culture messaging or colleagues who may be experiencing or in recovery from Eating Disorders. If you think your organisation would benefit from a more inclusive approach to health and well being please get in touch.

Over the next few weeks as Menopause Awareness Month arrives, I will be speaking at lots of different events, as I prepare for those I was thinking about my public speaking journey.

Slide 4 is me in Primary 4 👧🏻🎭 — I was given the role of narrator because I could project my voice. But my love for speaking started even earlier, in Primary 2 at the Feis reciting "I Had a Little Nut Tree" (getting a very important certificate” 💜). By Primary 6, I was taking weekly Speech & Drama lessons, sitting yearly exams, and spending countless hours at Feis — building skills that have stayed with me ever since.

Fast forward 20+ years, and speaking isn’t a way to advertise my business — it "is" my business.

Over the past year I have challenged myself a bit more and last year spoke about Menstrual Health in a room of both Men & Women at an event organised by Ciaran May, afterwards Ciaran kindly shared this feedback.

“Joanne is a very accomplished public speaker and held the room full of 80 plus business owners in the palm of her hand which is no mean feat.
She prepared a fantastic pitch which for me was the stand out one of the night.”

Ciaran May - Natural Resilience Network

I am so grateful that My 1:1 diary is pretty full and word of mouth referrals keep me pretty busy, I also keep numbers small so my clients always get the best of me — my hands can only do so much, even though I talk with them too 😉). Speaking at events allows me to support alot more people.

I am looking forward to a busy month of speaking engagements

Together, we can make sure powerful conversations reach the people who need them most.
👏 Value your speakers. especially for women, who are more often asked to give their time for free.
👏 Support local event organisers.
👏 Value your own voice or whatever gift or talent you have been given and have spent time nurturing.

If you agree, show some love ❤️

My Story

Through Try The Alternative, my aim is to Educate, Empower & Support people to be the healthiest they can be.

My earliest memory of using a Holistic approach to my health & well being was when I was 10 years old and Aromatherapy Oils were a regular go to at home. My journey has continued and today I am very thankful to have the knowledge and wisdom that I have and to be able to share that with others.
