If you’re unsure who to approach to ensure you obtain safe and regulated treatment for your ears please read his post below.
Please share! Recently there has been a large amount of non clinical or medically trained people offering ear wax removal. I have even seen beauticians and massage therapists doing this, and even on children! This madness has to stop. Even some pharmacies are training their retail staff, and this also applies to some very large high street companies. Ear wax removal is a dangerous procedure, permanent damage can be caused if the person performing it does not have the correct knowledge. You can't aquire this in a 1 day training course, you need years of experience and a medical background. It's not just the procedure risks, often there can be life threatening conditions that can be easily missed. Do they know what a cholesteatoma is, necrotising otitis externa, mastoidectomy, false fundus? Otitis media with effusion?
Let me put it this way, would you see a masseuse for some dental treatment? Would you see a nurse to get your nails done? There is currently NO regulation in ear wax removal, so many companies are shamelessly cashing in on a large market by training people in 1 day and then declaring them as competent. If you decide you need your ears sorting out, please check the training and more importantly the background of the provider. In my opinion I would only visit a specialist nurse like myself or an audiologist.
With anyone else, you're taking a chance with your hearing and your health. Please share far and wide until the authorities finally regulate the industry.
