Today at Blenheim House we proudly celebrated VE Day with an afternoon full of memories, stories, and togetherness. 🇬🇧❤️

A huge thank you to Steve, our wonderful maintenance man, who kindly brought in his fascinating collection of wartime memorabilia and spent time talking with residents about life during the war years. It sparked so many conversations, memories, and smiles throughout the afternoon.

We were also incredibly excited to welcome Montgomery’s car to Blenheim House, giving residents the opportunity to see and inspect such an iconic piece of history up close, a truly special moment for everyone involved!

To finish our celebrations, residents enjoyed a traditional cream tea together, sharing laughter, stories, and reflection on such an important part of our history.

Reminiscence activities like these are so important within our home. They encourage conversation, stimulate memories, support emotional wellbeing, and help residents reconnect with meaningful moments from their past. Seeing everyone so engaged, smiling, and sharing their stories today was simply wonderful.

Lest we forget. ❤️🇬🇧

Today at Blenheim House we were absolutely delighted to welcome Vino and Southie from Happy Hooves Therapy Miniature Horses 🐴

There was a real sense of joy and excitement as our residents met these beautiful, gentle horses. Vino even made a special visit to meet Colin the gorilla, which certainly brought plenty of smiles and laughter all around! It was such a heartwarming moment that truly lifted everyone’s spirits.

The residents’ faces lit up the moment Vino and Southie arrived, and one resident perfectly summed it up by saying, “They make me smile so much.” Moments like these remind us just how powerful and meaningful animal interactions can be.

Therapy horses play such an important role in our home. They help to reduce anxiety, encourage communication, spark memories, and provide comfort through their calm and friendly nature. For many of our residents, especially those living with dementia, these visits can bring a sense of connection, happiness, and emotional wellbeing that is truly priceless.

A huge thank you to Happy Hooves Therapy Miniature Horses for bringing such joy, warmth, and unforgettable moments to Blenheim House today 💛

Yesterday at Blenheim House Care Home, we were treated to something truly special, a wonderful hurdy-gurdy concert with the fantastic Brian and Penny 🎶

The hurdy-gurdy is a fascinating and historic instrument, dating all the way back to medieval times. Often described as a “mechanical violin,” it produces its unique sound through a hand-cranked wheel that rubs against the strings, creating a rich, droning melody that has been enjoyed for centuries across Europe.

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history of this unusual instrument, hearing its distinctive sound up close, and most importantly, joining in with some good old-fashioned singing along. The room was filled with smiles, laughter, and music. Just the way we like it!

Experiences like this are so important for our residents. Music has a powerful way of sparking memories, encouraging social interaction, and lifting spirits. It brings people together, creates joy in the moment, and provides meaningful engagement that supports wellbeing.

A huge thank you to Brian and Penny for sharing their talent and passion with us, it was a truly memorable afternoon for everyone at Blenheim House 💛

✂️ A Fresh Trim & Plenty of Smiles at Blenheim House ✂️

Today we were delighted to welcome the wonderful Dementia Barbers into our Cashmere Salon, and what a fantastic experience it was for our gentlemen!

Haircuts were delivered with such care, patience, and understanding, but more importantly, with warmth, laughter, and plenty of good-natured banter. It wasn’t just about a trim, it was about connection, dignity, and making each person feel comfortable and valued.

The atmosphere was relaxed and uplifting, and you could see just how much it meant to the residents to enjoy that familiar barbershop experience again. A haircut, a chat, and a few laughs, just what the guys needed!

A huge thank you to the Dementia Barbers for joining us today and making it such a special visit. We look forward to seeing you again soon 💙

🌍 Earth Day at Blenheim House 🌿

Today at Blenheim House, our residents came together to celebrate Earth Day in the most wonderful way! By giving back to nature.
We spent the day making bird feeders and painting beautiful bird boxes, ready to welcome our feathered friends as they begin nesting this spring 🐦🎨

This time of year is so important for supporting our local wildlife, and even small acts like these can make a big difference. By providing food and safe spaces, we’re helping our birds thrive while also doing our part to care for the planet we all share 🌱

Activities like this are not only meaningful but incredibly beneficial for our residents, encouraging creativity, sparking conversation, and fostering a sense of purpose and connection with nature. There was plenty of laughter, teamwork, and pride in every creation!

We’re so proud of everyone who took part today and we look forward to seeing our gardens come alive with birds enjoying their new homes 🏡💚

🌻 The Battle of the Sunflowers Begins! 🌻

This afternoon at Blenheim House Care Home, things got a little competitive… in the best possible way! Our residents rolled up their sleeves and planted their very own sunflower seeds as part of our “Battle of the Sunflowers.” 🌱

Now the challenge is on! who will grow the tallest sunflower? 👀
There’s already lots of excitement, laughter, and a little friendly rivalry in the air as everyone eagerly awaits to see just how tall their sunflowers will grow this year.

It wasn’t just about planting seeds, it was about enjoying the moment, getting hands in the soil, and sharing something truly uplifting together 🌼

We’d love to invite our local community to come along, watch our sunflowers grow, and be part of the journey with us. Why not join us at our Community Coffee Morning on April 22nd 11am- 12.30☕
From then on, we’ll be meeting every third Wednesday of the month. A perfect chance to connect, relax, and see how our sunflower competition is blooming!

Keeping active doesn’t always mean standing up, sometimes the best work is done right from your chair 💺

At Blenheim House Care Home, our armchair exercises are a fantastic way to keep our residents moving, engaged, and feeling strong. These gentle sessions focus on building core strength, improving balance, and maintaining flexibility, which are all essential in helping to reduce the risk of falls.

By strengthening those key muscle groups, our residents can feel more confident in their mobility, whether that’s standing, walking, or simply carrying out everyday activities. But it’s not just about physical benefits, these sessions also bring plenty of smiles, laughter, and a wonderful sense of togetherness.

A little movement goes a long way, and at Blenheim House, we’re proud to support our residents in staying active, safe, and independent 💙
