Dear Practice members,

This is just a short message to update you on some of the things that have been happening at the West Grove Chiropractic Centre over the past month.

As you know, the clinic had been shut down completely for 7 weeks, and in mid- May we did make some limited hours available to help with urgent and acute care cases. Over the past month, we have continued to open up more hours and we are now consistently in the clinic on a Tuesday and Thursday. It has been great seeing some of you again and we would welcome anyone looking for advice or an appointment to get in touch.

We do realise that some of you will be ‘shielding’ until later this month and therefore unable to attend for face-to-face care. I am happy to report that we have been able to update our systems to provide video consultations. We would be happy to help with any questions, provide advice and/or update your stretches /exercises.

We are also excited to announce that we now have an ‘online appointment booking system’ for anyone wanting to schedule a video consultation or an actual appointment at the clinic. The process is very simple, just follow the link eskbankchiropractic.connect.tm3app.com and it will guide you through the necessary steps. This link can also be found on our clinic website https://www.westgrove-chiropractic.co.uk/.
If you haven’t already seen it, you may want to watch the video update on lay-out and procedures at West Grove (https://player.vimeo.com/video/416965514)

We will also be holding our first ever online (zoom) ‘spinal health care class’ in the next couple of weeks. Usually, this is for new practice members but there will be a special emphasis on promoting base line health and it will be available for everyone. We feel strongly that there has never been a more important time to teach people about the benefits of chiropractic care and to help people achieve better base-line health. If you would like to be on the call please email lori@westgrove-chiropractic.co.uk.

As always, we would welcome any feedback and hope to see you all soon.

Yours sincerely

Lori and Chris

Becoming a Healthy Host

We have had numerous requests from our client group regarding proactive advice to help during this pandemic and also the role of chiropractic in such unprecedented times.

The media has been keeping us informed and we have all heard how some people will be unaware that they actually have the virus, others will develop mild to moderate symptoms and unfortunately some will become critically ill. What sets these people apart seems to be linked to how well their bodies and in particular their immune systems are functioning. The health of the host, including the number of underlying health conditions and a person’s age certainly seem to be consistent important factors.

The main aim of Chiropractic care has always been to improve ‘base-line’ or ‘host’ health by adjusting the spine and encouraging people to follow healthy lifestyles. The science tells us chiropractic care improves the brain / body connection and influences the parts of the body directly related to our immune response. What is lacking in the research though is the clinical application of this basic science knowledge. The clinical studies of how this understanding would be applied to an individual and their symptoms has just not been completed at this stage.

Top tips for improving ‘host’ health:

• Follow government advice relating to hand washing and social distancing policies
• Improve your diet – eat whole foods, increase vegetable intake, and AVOID sugar (a study found that consuming sugar can reduce your innate immune response by 50% for 5-12 hours!)
• Increase exercise – we have stressed the value of a simple ½ hour walk in past newsletters and you are allowed a whole hour. Build gradually if you have not walked for this length of time before.
• Decrease all Stress – Sometimes easier said than done but try to focus on the positive things and the things that you can control. Make a schedule each day and try to stick to it and make use of technology to stay in touch with friends and loved ones
• Try to get at least 8 hours of quality sleep – studies have shown that less than this can cause a 50% decrease in immune function.
• Ensure you have a sufficient intake of ESSENTIAL nutrients (i.e. nutrients that are not readily produced by your body and must be ingested)
1. Omega 3 fatty acids
2. Vitamin D
• Contact us directly if you are interested in what other nutraceuticals might be of benefit.
• Look out for our regular updates so we can schedule your check-up and adjustment as soon as possible.

*If you would like a summary leaflet showing the relationship between the nerve system, chiropractic care and immune function, just let us know.

Hello Everyone,

During this time of isolation/lockdown, you may find you are working from home or spending more time than usual in front of a computer, laptop or screen of some sort. Unfortunately, this can have a detrimental effect on posture. We all know that there are many negative health effects directly related to poor posture and that improving/correcting poor posture can have many positive health outcomes.

This gentle, follow along exercise program is designed to work the all important postural muscles of the upper back and neck. Please remember: Safety First! Ease gently into the exercises and work within your pain free limits.

As always, feedback is welcome in the comments below, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Wishing you the very best,

Lori

If you need some help or tips to improve your mobility, flexibility and/or core strength, just let us know! The clinic makes use of an online exercise prescription service so it's really easy (for existing practice members) to have their exercises and stretches updated regularly! Stay safe everyone!

Coronavirus update:

Following the U.K Prime Minister and the Scottish First Minister’s statements last night, it is with heavy hearts that we will be temporarily closing the practice. We have taken guidance from the General Chiropractic Council and the Scottish Chiropractic Association who agree that only acute, emergency patients should be consulted and then also with extreme caution.

We have worked tirelessly to take every hygiene measure possible to allow our members to continue their care within our practice over recent weeks but as the pandemic has intensified, we understand that we must all do our part to protect our communities and help prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19.

If you have an appointment scheduled, we will be contacting you over the coming days to ensure you have received this message but please do stay in touch – we are at the end of the phone (or skype) to help with advice, perhaps update any exercise and home routines.

We are always here to help and should you require any emergency care please contact me on 07850032889.

Thank you for your kind messages and support over the last few weeks; we really look forward to continuing your chiropractic care in hopefully the not-too-distant future.

Best Wishes,
Lori, Chris and Sally

West Grove Chiropractic and Spinal Rehab Centre Covid-19 Statement

Dear Practice Member,
This is a very worrying time for all families and the full impact of how this pandemic will affect us all is changing on a daily basis. We are monitoring the situation very closely and are conscious of not wanting to add pressure to our critical health and social care services.
The West Grove clinic remains open at this time and we will be sharing this information with everyone attending for appointments. We have changed our scheduling policies and internal clinic setup to help with social distancing guidelines. We will provide access to our sink to wash hands and/or hand sanitizer gel on arrival/departure and every effort will be made to sanitize our treatment rooms before and after each person. We will of course notify all practice members should we experience any of the identified coronavirus symptoms.
Important:
We cannot guarantee that our staff, clinic and all our treatment areas are safe from this virus. In addition, we cannot guarantee that practice members attending for appointments are virus free and would like to reiterate that it is entirely your decision whether you attend the clinic or not.
Guidelines: (Relating to everyone attending the clinic)
• Please do not attend your appointment if you have any of the key coronavirus symptoms. These include a high temperature and a new persistent or continuous cough
• Please wash your hands thoroughly before attending the clinic and make use of sanitizer gel or clinic hand washing facilities on arrival and departure.
• Please respect other practice members space and avoid touching wherever possible.
• Please do not take risks if you or those living with you are in any of the vulnerable categories.
• Since we cannot guarantee our clinic space is safe or virus free it must be entirely your decision whether or not you choose to attend for care. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
• Please refer (regularly) to the latest official advice.
• Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
Best Wishes Always,
Chris, Lori and the West Grove Team
