Testimonial -Acupuncture for the whole family

It’s the ultimate privilege when patients/ parents trust me to treat their children. The special thing about paediatric acupuncture is that when we treat the child this creates a positive ripple effect throughout the entire family ❤️

I love getting to support woman all along the way, from the struggles to conceive, to reaching every pregnancy milestone & finally to becoming a mum.

There was a lovely full circle moment in clinic a few weeks ago where a patient who I treated for fertility brought her baby to my clinic. I treated baby with Paediatric Tuina for colic and constipation. I also taught mum simple Tuina techniques that she can incorporate into baby’s bedtime routine to maintain the benefits of treatment at home. I received an update from mum this week saying that treatment had relieved baby’s colic and constipation, baby was sleeping better and as a result was happy and settled. ❤️

A gentle reminder for those who are feeling the annual ‘new year, new me’ pressure. You only have to look around at nature to see that this isn’t the time to blossom into something new. Winter is the season of conservation. It’s a time to turn inwards, to rest, reflect and recuperate. A time to plant the seeds that will emerge in spring.

So here’s a thought.. instead of reinventing yourself and hitting the gym immediately what if you chose to slow down, to sleep more, eat warm nourishing food, meditate daily, quietly reflect.. simply just BE.

The time for new life will come 🌱

Winter

The classic texts of Chinese Medicine urge us to follow the cycle of the seasons in order to stay healthy. The Huang Di Nei Jing ("The Inner Classic of the Yellow Emperor"), contains some of the oldest teachings about winter and its relationship to the Kidneys:

“During the Winter months all things in nature wither, hide, return home, and enter a resting period, just as lakes and rives freeze and snow falls. This is a time when yin dominates yang. Therefore one should refrain from overusing the yang energy. Retire early and get up with the sunrise, which is later in Winter. Desires and mental activity should be kept quiet and subdued, as if keeping a happy secret. Stay warm, avoid the cold, and keep the skin covered. Avoid sweating. The theory of the Winter season is one of conservation and storage. Without such practice the result will be injury to the Kidney energy. This will cause weakness, shrinking of muscles, and coldness; then the body loses its ability to open and move about in the Spring.”

Maintaining an appropriate balance between activity and rest is crucial to the health of the water element. In addition to the advice from the classic texts, here are some self-care tips to follow for the winter months ahead.

Nourish body and mind and spirit by visiting one of our practitioners at Life Rituals. Rest.Conserve and get nourished.

Yesterday I received my diploma in Paediatrics. It’s been the most amazing year training with the inspirational teacher and mentor, Rebecca Avern.

Paediatric acupuncture can be used for a number of health imbalances your child may have. Typically we might see cases of anxiety/ stress, ADHD, sleep disturbances, digestive issues or immune support. For children who can’t tolerate needles I can use a variety of non- insertive acupuncture tools including Shonishin, cupping and the use of Teishin. I am also fully trained in Paediatric Tuina, a system of medical massage for babies and young children.

As a mother to two young children aged 5 and 7, I fully understand the impact it can have on the whole family when a child isn’t well. Acupuncture is a gentle treatment that can support your child back to health which not only benefits them, but everyone around them too. Both my children have received the benefits of acupuncture for various issues including ear infections, digestive issues and anxiety.

If you have any questions about whether acupuncture is suitable for your child, feel free to send a DM. ✨✨
