National Test of the Emergency Alerts system - Sunday 7 September at 3pm

The UK government is testing the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm.

Emergency Alerts is a UK government system that provides warning and advice in a life threatening emergency. Only the government and the emergency services are able to send them.
More information is available at gov.uk/alerts.

The test will be sent to all compatible 4G and 5G mobile phones and tablets across the UK. You will hear a loud siren-like sound, vibration, and a message will appear on the screen. The sound and vibration will last for about 10 seconds. You do not need to take any action.

You can opt out.
If you have a reason to conceal a phone, for example if you’re a domestic abuse survivor, the alert could reveal your phone, even if it’s on silent.

You can watch Refuge Charity’s video on how to opt-out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2MBcHwmiy8
