What is Dementia Social Sitting?
Our Dementia Social Sitting Service offers friendly, non-clinical companionship visits to people living with dementia in their own homes. Visits focus on conversation, connection and meaningful interaction, helping to reduce loneliness and support wellbeing.
What you’ll do
• Spend time chatting and listening
• Share simple activities such as looking at photos, music or reminiscence
• Offer calm reassurance and friendly companionship
• Visit independently with full support from the Dove Cottage team
This is not a personal care or clinical role.
Time commitment
• Flexible – typically 1–2 hours per visit
• Visits arranged around your availability
• Regular or occasional volunteering welcomed
We’re looking for someone who is
• Kind, patient and a good listener
• Comfortable spending time one-to-one
• Reliable and able to maintain professional boundaries
• Previous dementia or health and social care experience is desirable but not essential
• Full induction and training will be provided
What we offer
• Comprehensive induction and dementia awareness training
• Ongoing support and supervision from our Clinical Lead and Hospice Home Visiting Team
• Travel expenses reimbursed
• A rewarding role where your time truly matters
Why volunteer with us?
Your visit may be the highlight of someone’s week. By offering companionship, you help reduce isolation and support emotional wellbeing for people living with dementia. At the same time, your visit provides vital respite for family members and carers, giving them time to rest, attend appointments, or take a short break, knowing their loved one is safe and enjoying friendly, supportive company.
