Childhood emotional neglect is when a child’s emotional needs, such as affection, encouragement, empathy, or validation are chronically overlooked or dismissed. Over time, the child internalises the idea that their feelings don’t matter, and this often carries over into adulthood, making it hard for a person to recognise or express emotions. If you feel you have experienced childhood emotional neglect or are struggling with your emotions as an adult, person-centred therapy can help.
Adults who experience childhood emotional neglect may struggle with self-worth, relationships, or expressing emotions. Discover how healing can start.
