A L T E R E D S E R V I C E U P D A T E // ‼️

This week has been the first week of our pause of service at St Mary’s & we’ve had many calls of confusion regarding the altered provision of service - we hope to provide some clarification for you below 👇🏼

⏰ Our altered working hours are:

8am - 5pm | 7 days a week

🗓️ Appointments:

🤰🏻Antenatal care:
• Some antenatal clinics will now be held at SMBC. These include those registered under the GP’s of all our women - Melton, Syston, Sileby & the Vale of Belvoir.
• Those who are unable to attend clinic, or those under the Acorn Team will continue to have access to appointments at the birth centre as usual.
• Those experiencing altered fetal movements who are less than 26 weeks of pregnancy can continue to access our support so please do not hesitate to call.

🍬Glucose tolerance tests (GTT)

🪷 Membrane sweeps & aromatherapy

👶🏻 Postnatal checks

🤱🏾👩🏼‍🍼Feeding support: Inpatient stays are paused but infant feeding support continues to be available between our working hours.

🏩 Our ‘Meet the Midwife’ antenatal sessions & ‘You & Your Baby’ infant feeding classes are hoping to be relaunched in due course so keep an eye out for dates/times when they’ve been confirmed

Pause of births and inpatient postnatal care at St Mary’s Birth Centre, Melton Mowbray

From 7 July 2025, births and inpatient postnatal care at St Mary’s Birth Centre in Melton Mowbray will be paused due to safe staffing challenges and low birth numbers.

💬 Community antenatal and postnatal care will continue

🏡 Our home birth team is still available

🏥 Midwifery-led care also continues at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and the Leicester General Hospital

We are contacting those directly affected to discuss alternative care arrangements and are supporting all impacted staff.

Detailed work with partners to determine next steps will now take place and is likely to take up to six months.
