Happy International Yoga Day! It got me thinking about all the people, throughout The World practising yoga today and the positive ripple effect of that flowing out into The World.

Maybe you have had chance to take a class today, or practice at home or with friends but if you haven't you can always take 5 minutes to breathe consciously.

Below is a simple breathing exercise that may help bring calm and balance into your day..

It's called Sama Vritti Pranayama or sometimes Samana

This is when we breath in and out for the same length of time.

Sit upright, or lie down comfortably.

Begin to notice the pattern of your breath. Do so without any judgement, just a curious observation.
(Sometimes when we feel stressed the breath is short and shallow with outbreath often shorter than in breath)

Breathe in and out through the nose if this is comfortable for you.

If possible allow the breath to move the belly.

Breathe in for the slow count of 4 seconds (or 3 seconds if 4 is challenging)

Breathe out for the slow count of 4 seconds.

Continue for a few rounds of breath.
Same length of in breath to out breath

Notice how you feel and enjoy 🧘‍♀️

Today is a powerful day where we have both a Solar Eclipse and a Super Moon! In Wales, if the cloud cover clears, we may see this as a partial eclipse at sunset 7.55pm.

We may like to sit quietly at this time, meditate or practice yoga, setting a Sankalpa or Intention. To do this you may like to listen inwardly to gain a sense of what is important to you. Maybe more peace, more presence, healing, more balance, or calmness for example.

Happy Spring Equinox! Spring is underway, despite the recent wet weather, nature delivers, responding to the increase in daylight and at the Spring Equinox day and night are of equal length but the light is gaining. This new beginning may naturally inspire us to think about new projects.

I love this time of year, when out on daily walks seeing the emergence of new Spring life ~ snowdrops, daffodils and more recently the buds on some trees beginning to open.

For those who may have a regular yoga practice you may also be observing a change in what you feel like practising. For me, Winter was very much about about rest, my practises were mainly Yoga Nidra (yogic rest) , Meditation and Mantra. More recently, with the arrival of Spring I felt more drawn to a more active practice.

It's often at the start of the year that we may feel like setting goals or intentions for the year ahead. I've heard it said that setting a handful of smaller goals, and, importantly knowing "why" the goal is important to you, often yields greater success in actually achieving our goals.

Perhaps your goals this year include such things as experiencing more clarity or balance, greater sense of calm or peace. Maybe you would like to feel healthier, stronger and experience less tension. If so, yoga 🧘‍♀️ may be able to help you with all of these things.

We have some spaces available in our Thursday Yoga Class 1.30 -3pm at Talwrn Village Hall, Anglesey with popular guest teacher Katy Stylli.

It's been feeling like the height of a very hot Summer this week, rather than Autumn. The Autumn fruits are on the trees and yet the sun is shining bright.

I've been practising two breathing techniques (pranayama) which help cool the body, namely Sitali (Sithali) and Sitkari, both may also be helpful for hot flushes during menopause.

The New Autumn Term has started for September and if you would like to join the class im teaching :-

Online via Zoom each Monday 2.45 -3.45pm

We also have some spaces in the Talwrn Class which Katy Stylii is teaching Tuesdays 2-3.30pm
