Harpin’s Funeral Service has opened its latest funeral home in Normanton High Street, expanding its network of branches which already serves families in Wakefield, Outwood and Horbury.

Local families repeatedly highlighted how valuable it would be to have a Harpin’s Funeral Service that was easy to reach and offered genuine choice close to home.

Business Principal Sara Harpin said: “My uncle and aunt both dedicated their working lives to caring for people in this area, and opening in Normanton feels like keeping a quiet promise we made through those conversations. We’ve cared for many Normanton families for years, and now we can be closer to them, right at the heart of their community.”

The new funeral home brings Harpin’s long‑established care to a wider area, offering a welcoming, modern space for families at a difficult time.

Arthur Cambrey Funeral Directors are delighted to be a key part of the community heading into their 76th anniversary

Arthur Cambrey Funeral Directors was founded in 1950 by Mr Cambrey, who worked tirelessly for the local community until he passed away in 2012.

The business joined Funeral Partners in 2023.

Alison, Mr Cambrey’s daughter, still supports families today, alongside long-serving Funeral Director Karl Jenkins, who began learning the profession under Mr Cambrey’s guidance at just 20 years old.

Alison explained that she is happy to still be helping the community while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

“I’m still here in the business, albeit a little less than before,” Alison said, “I want my father’s legacy to be around for many, many years to come and I hope Funeral Partners will ensure that happens.”

Today, on World Poetry Day, we’re reminded of the quiet power words can hold, especially during times of grief.

Poetry often gives shape to feelings that can be hard to express. A few lines, a simple rhythm, or a moment captured on the page can bring comfort when emotions feel overwhelming. For many people who are grieving, poetry becomes a space to pause, reflect, and feel understood.

Poetry can also create a powerful moment of connection during a funeral, offering words that gently express feelings many people struggle to say aloud. Its rhythm and imagery help bring calm, reflection, and a sense of shared understanding.

Mother’s Day is a chance to celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, and mother‑figures who have filled our lives with love, guidance, and warmth. Their care shapes families and communities in countless meaningful ways.

As funeral professionals, we see every day how powerful a mother’s influence can be — in the stories families share, the traditions passed down, and the love that continues long after someone has gone.

Whether you’re spending the day together or reflecting on the memories that make you smile, we hope this day brings a sense of gratitude and connection.
