🌟 Missed Appointments Affect Everyone 🌟

Over the last 6 months, our surgery had:

⏰ 230 hours 10 minutes of missed appointments
That’s equal to:

🗓 9 days, 14 hours of lost clinical time
👥 1,300+ missed patient slots
🩺 6+ weeks of GP time gone

💬 Why it matters - When someone doesn’t attend an appointment:

➡ Another patient misses the chance to be seen
➡ Waiting times get longer
➡ Follow‑up care can be delayed
➡ Same‑day appointments become harder to offer

❤️ Please help us help you, If you can’t attend, please cancel:
📞 Call reception
📱 Text us back from your appointment reminder

Even a short‑notice cancellation helps another patient.

🌙 Why Good Sleep Matters for Your Health 🌙

Getting enough good‑quality sleep is essential for our overall health and wellbeing. That’s why sleep is one of the Six Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine. Sleep helps our bodies rest, recharge and stay healthy — but poor sleep or not getting enough of it can have a big impact on our physical and mental health.

Here’s why sleep is so important:

😴 We need 7–9 hours of good sleep each night - This helps support our immune system, so we can fight off infections and even some cancer cells more effectively.
🛏️ Poor sleep weakens immunity - Getting less than 5 hours a night can reduce your body’s ability to protect you from illness.
🦠 Sleep supports a healthy gut Our microbiome — the helpful bacteria that keep many of our body systems working properly — relies on sleep to function well.
⚖️ Sleep helps manage weight and blood sugar - Good sleep supports healthy metabolism, insulin control and appetite. Poor sleep is linked to higher calorie intake, obesity and type 2 diabetes.
🧠 Sleep boosts brain function and memory - While we sleep, our brains process new information. Not sleeping enough affects concentration, memory and may contribute to cognitive decline.
💚 Sleep supports mental health - Good‑quality sleep helps reduce stress, anxiety and depression. It also helps us process difficult emotions and build resilience.
❤️ Sleep protects your heart - Lack of sleep is linked to high blood pressure, heart disease and increased risk of stroke. Good sleep helps maintain healthy blood flow throughout the body and brain.

Better sleep = better health.
Small changes to your bedtime routine can make a big difference. 🌟

Update on Building Extension Works
As you may have noticed, work is now well underway on our new building extension. We want to keep everyone informed about some temporary disruptions that will take place over the coming days.

Car Park Closure – Thursday Morning
This Thursday morning, the car park will be closed for a short period to allow a large piling machine to be brought onto the site. Once the machine has been safely moved to the back of the building, the car park will reopen.

Further Closure – Monday/Tuesday Next Week
The machine is expected to complete piling work by Monday/Tuesday next week. At that time, the car park will again need to close briefly to allow the machine to exit the site.

Noise Disruption
During the four days the piling machine is operating, there will be significant noise, including loud banging. We understand this may be disruptive, and we will do everything we can to minimise the impact on patients and staff.

We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding during this essential phase of our extension works. We will continue to keep you updated as the schedule progresses and will let you know exactly when the car park will be closed and reopened.

Why Moving More Matters for Your Health 🌟

Did you know that not being active enough is linked to millions of deaths worldwide every year? Being inactive can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and even depression.
But the good news? Small changes can make a BIG difference.
Over the years, modern life has encouraged us to sit more and move less—cars, gadgets, computers and our phones all add up. But being active doesn’t mean running marathons or joining a gym. It’s about finding simple, enjoyable ways to move more each day:
✨ Go for a short walk
✨ Take the stairs
✨ Stretch regularly
✨ Break up long periods of sitting
✨ Do activities you enjoy

Being more active can help you:
💙 Live longer
💙 Improve mood
💙 Reduce the risk of long‑term illness
💙 Stay strong and independent as you age

At Airlie Medical Practice, we’re focusing on the Six Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine, and this month we’re highlighting Physical Activity. Join us as we share tips to help you build small, sustainable changes into your daily routine.
Let’s move more, feel better, and live healthier—one step at a time. 💪💙
