We are aware there has recently been media coverage and discussion regarding the Meningitis B (MenB) vaccine, and some patients have contacted the practice with queries. We would like to clarify the current position within the NHS. There is currently no MenB vaccination programme for adults available as part of the NHS Vaccination Schedule. Unfortunately, this means the practice is unable to offer the vaccine to adults. We are aware there are local private providers available. The MenB vaccine was introduced into the routine childhood immunisation schedule from 1st May 2015.

This means:

โ€ข If you are a teenager or young adult born before 1 May 2015, you will not have received the MenB vaccine as part of the NHS schedule

โ€ข The MenB vaccine is now routinely offered to babies as part of the NHS childhood schedule at: 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 12 months (1 year old). If your child is eligible for the vaccine, they will automatically be invited as part of their routine childhood immunisations.

If you have any concerns about meningitis symptoms or believe someone may be unwell, please seek urgent medical advice.

For further information about meningitis, the symptoms to look out for and vaccinations, please follow the link provided to visit the NHS website

The UK Heath Security Agency (UKHSA) is issuing daily updates on the Meningitis B (MenB) outbreak. You can see these by clicking here

Help us to protect the privacy of our patients, visitors and staff โค๏ธ

We know there may be times when you want to share your experiences on social media while staying or visiting one of our hospitals.

However, please remember no photos, filming or audio recordings of patients, staff and visitors are allowed unless you have the personโ€™s permission to do so.

This includes anywhere in or around the hospital grounds including:

โœ…waiting rooms and reception areas
โœ…clinical consultations
โœ…medical procedures
โœ… those in the background of your shots

Thank you for helping us to maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

If you do see somebody taking pictures or filming, please raise your concerns with a senior member of staff in that department.

Flu cases in hospitals are the highest ever for this time of year.

But there are things you can do to help, like getting vaccinated, if eligible, and taking steps to protect older and more vulnerable family members.

More than 18 million people have already had a flu vaccine this season.

Flu vaccines donโ€™t stop everyone from catching flu, but they do reduce the risk of becoming seriously unwell, needing hospital care or developing complications โ€“ especially for older adults and those with health conditions.

If youโ€™re eligible and havenโ€™t had yours yet, itโ€™s not too late to get protected.

Cases of flu, colds and respiratory illnesses are on the rise this winter season. Help us to protect vulnerable patients and staff.

To help to reduce the spread weโ€™re asking if you, or someone who you live with has started to feel unwell, to please not visit your loved ones in hospital.

Symptoms can include:

โœ…A high temperature
โœ…A dry cough
โœ…Nausea
โœ…Vomiting
โœ…Diarrhoea

If you havenโ€™t already, there is still time to book your flu vaccine through your GP, pharmacy or online at: ๐Ÿ“https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/vaccination-and-booking-services/book-flu-vaccination/

Thank you for helping us to keep our hospitals safe for everyone this Christmas.

Take note and please comply.

Take note and please comply.

Weโ€™re seeing a rise in flu and respiratory illnesses locally. ๐Ÿ˜ท

To keep our most vulnerable patients safe, our staff will be wearing masks in several wards and departments at James Cook Hospital and the University Hospital of North Tees.

While mask wearing isnโ€™t mandatory for patients and visitors, we would encourage those attending the below areas to consider wearing a mask. These will be provided by our teams.
