From September 2023, the Environment Agency made likes of sofas, office chairs, dining chairs etc more expensive to recycle as cannot go to landfill due all items containing foam, so, require to be incinerated due POPs (pollutants), so, very expensive to recycle (they were very expensive before with likes of mattresses, fridges, paints etc).

The landfill rates for recycling waste will go up close to 22% from 1st April 2025 on top of the NI increase, minimum wage & all the other associated costs that are happening in the background, so, fly tipping will be on the increase where people fail their duty of care & happy for cheap collection rates for their waste.


Now, we have this, thus adding more costs to collection & recycling of waste:


Important update: changes affecting waste collections in England From 31 March 2025, new Simpler Recycling requirements will require waste collectors to collect the following wastes separately from businesses and non-domestic premises in England:

1. Dry recyclables – plastic, metal, glass
2. Paper and card
3. Food waste
4. Residual waste

By default, paper and card must be collected separately from plastic, metal and glass unless you (the waste collector) can demonstrate through a written co-collection assessment that this is not technically or economically practicable, or of no significant environmental benefit.

Recommended steps:

• Read the guidance for workplace recycling in England, including the legal requirements that waste collectors will need to comply with: Simpler recycling: workplace recycling in England – GOV.UK.

• Familiarise yourself with the in-scope materials to be captured within each stream: The Separation of Waste (England) Regulations 2024.

• Follow the 'Checklist for Waste Collectors' and use supporting documents to communicate the new requirements and your collection services to customers:

Cake for little 'Ivy-Blu' for her second birthday. . . . . Base castle made from Victoria sponges, filled with a vanilla butter cream and a raspberry jam filling. Encased in a white chocolate ganache and covered in fondant. 11 turrets and smaller castle level, that grace the cake are hand made from card craft and decorated up, then filled with sweets and lollipops. . . . We hope you had a wonderful day 'Ivy-Blu! xx
